4 ANTIQUE ARCHITECTURAL GLASS PRISM TILES LUXFER 3-WAY DEW DROP PANEL TORCH
A group of four 4" square prism tiles in four different patterns. DEW DROP and PANEL patterns were produced by American 3-Way Prism Company of La Porte. Indiana who incorporated Luxfer in the 1920's. TORCH pattern was produced by Jupiter Prism Company of Davenport, Indiana. PLAIN was produced by Condie-Neal Glass Company of ST Louis. Although originally clear crystal, the magnesium used in the production of the glass has turned all four a pale purple from sun exposure(some are a darker tint than others) These prism panels were used in transom windows, primarily in commercial buildings to try and beam natural light into a long interior with windows only on the facade.The photos in the listing are stock photos for us so you know what we are selling and so I don't have to take photos of every set we list, but all are in about the ... moresame condition the edges were covered with lead in the big windows using I channel and I find a lot of flaking or chips when dismantling the big windows but as I've been cleaning them up I'm picking the best condition ones to send out so you can expect small imperfections around the edges on some of them. For sale are 5 antique Luxfer prism tiles! Each tile is 4" x 4" These have a great lavender hue to them. They came out of a building in downtown St. Louis a few years back. They are from between 1890- 1910. These were used so they are not in perfect condition. However they can still be used to make a number of things including putting them back into windows, coasters, or a number of different things! These are really very beautiful and are not something that you can find all the time. These are all the same design. Frank Lloyd Wright Prism Transom Glass Lot of 6 Purple Sun Touched Tiles Luxfer
Antique Luxfer Prism Glass Frank Lloyd Wright Design Salvaged Lot of 6 Typically used in storefronts to transfer light at the turn of the century. These tile are around 100 years or older. As salvage, they have nicks, chiggers, and rough dark edges from the stained glass style. They are approx. 4x4" I have found that many are short of that 4" top to bottom. They appear to not be terribly uniform. These 6 are very close in color and size. There is only 1 little rough spot. And I mean slight to one tile on the saw tooth side. I find no rough spots on the sides that hold the Wright prism design. They are a darker purple from the sun. Bob Post Antiques will be listing 6 more that are not as dark as these in another listing. Lot of 4 Large Antique Early 1900's Luxfer Prism Stained Glass Tile Pane 1920
You are bidding on a lot of 4 PCS/1 bid. I have a second lot of 4 listed as well.Antique early 1900's Glass Prism Pane. Measures 9-1/2" x 11-3/4" x 3/16" thick. The use of Manganese in architectural glass ceased during WW I.To conserve metals for the war effort,so these panes are more than likely from the 1920's,based on it's clear color. It's possible that they were never installed and from the earlier 1900's. In excellent condition,bear in mind that these may have been cut from a larger sheet and there are tiny imperfections on the edges and maybe a couple of insigificant fleabites elsewhere. ANTIQUE FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT PATENTED LUXFER GLASS PRISM TILES. Three of them have the same pattern and one is plane. They measure 4" by 4" Produced by the Luxfer Glass Company in 1897. These are cast glass tile that has a saw tooth pattern on the backside that was designed to throw light back into a storefront. These have very slight lavender tint to them. Which is caused by exposure to sunlight due to the chemical composition of the glass used at that time. They are used and have some tiny flea bites. I have 340 Prism tiles looking for a good home or restoration project. These Beautiful 100+ year old prism tiles from a time when electricity was but a dream. In 1897. Frank Lloyd Wright patented a style of prismatic glass tile designed to refract and diffuse light into the building from the outside for maximum lighting efficiency these are part of those designs. These tiles were generally used in store fronts as the transoms to the larger plate glass display windows. Placed there because these special tiles had the unique ability to bounce ambient exterior light. Into the interior! No electricity, remember? Wright patterned this designs for the Luxfer Prism Company in 1897. This 100 + year old tiles were removed from a commercial transom that consisted of many prism glass tiles. Includes 20“raindrop” tiles and 44“prism” pattern. All are clear. These are securely mounted together in the wood window sill which still has the latch attached on one side. Back is painted white. Front is painted brown. Frame has been painted numerous times and has wear and tear. Measurements are 37” x 37 7/8” This is a very heavy piece. 1900's Frank lloyd Wright Designed Glass Prism Transom Window. Luxfer Glass Co.
1900's transom window manufactured by the Luxfer Glass Co. The Luxfor Glass Co. in association with Frank Lloyd Wright. Who designed some of their tiles. This flower or geometric design was the only one put into production and has a 1897 patent date. This partial window came from a bank in my hometown. It was damaged when removing and I made architectural type frame around the remaining undamaged window. The frame is made from old walnut. It has the same profile on both sides and is mitered at the corners. The window is inset in the frame and caulked. This makes the window solid as these tend to be wavy. Top coated with three coats of lacquer. There is one row of flower tiles at the top and one row three up from the bottom. I have close up images to show details. Tiles measure 4 by 4 inches. The glass prism tiles were installed in transom windows to get natural sunlight reflected farther into interior spaces. As electric lighting was still in its infancy. These tiles are ever so charming. They feature the snowflake pattern and have been salvaged from antique window panels. They are 4" x 4" square. The photos make it look like they are different shades but they are actually similar shades. The tiles are in nice condition they do have some flea bites and a few rough edges. I have cleaned them. But they will probably require another round of cleaning. They would be perfect for art projects, coasters, tables, a backsplash and more. I have more if you need a larger quantity.
