Adorable Antique c1880 Intact English Bamboo Display or Plant Stand Xlnt Condit
Absolutely adorable authentic Victorian display stand(c 1880) in great condition. There are a couple of splits in the bamboo legs(see photo 4 and 8) but they are stable and not wobbly or coming un-done. This piece is probably English. Marked by the smoked tortoiseshell effect on the legs of real bamboo. There are a couple of things that make this piece quite remarkable: First. Its diminuative size. It stands 9 1/2" tall. The tabletop measures 10 3/8" x 9 1/2" Secondly, the fact that the woven and stenciled matting on the top of the stand are completely original and without blemish! More sophisticated pieces would have had a lacquered face to the top. But, we want to stress how unusual it it to find the more fragile matting material intact. And to have stenciling on it that hasn't been ruined by water damage makes this just ... morea great find! Being good stewards of beautiful household items from the past, we would emphasize the care you should exhibit with this delicious bit of Victoriana. Please don't plop a plant down on it that's going to leak all over it and ruin its beautiful state. It has beautiful scalloped edges and is a quality well built sturdy piece. It is in excellent condition with only minor wear to the finish. The only issue I have sound with this piece is that someone added a few nails to the top. The top must have been lose and they nailed a few nails into it to tighten it up. The nail heads are very small and are flush on the top of the table so they are very hard to see. I did not notice them until I cleaned the piece. It stands 28 1/2 inches tall and the top is 24 inches by 18 inches. I've tried to take a number of pictures so that you can judge for yourself it's quality and value. Unique antique side table with a recessed top. Old hand made nails, vaneer top& pierced sides. I measured for symmetry and this is not symmetrical which means that it was hand made. It appears to be walnut. May be 18th or 19th century. I couldn't find any newer hardware on it. It is in need of some restoration. But is certainly functional as is and is tight& sturdy.
