A nice impression of an interesting antique map. Any minor defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. Sheet measures c. 15 1/2" W x 11 1/4" H. It is 12 x 9 inches and shows the Foyle River from the Cemetery/Brandywell to the south and Magee College& Cloughglass to the north. The map is in fair condition. No obvious faults. The Plan covers both sides of the river and a few places to note are the Union Workhouse. Ebrington Barracks, Carlisle Bridge, Gas Works, A distillery, Gwyn's Institute, Lunatic Asylum& Foyle College. Londonderry/Derry is known as the Maiden City because Derry's Walls were never breached. 1683 Fine Mallet City Plan of Dublin
1683 Mallet Map- Dublin Allain Mallet whose professional occupation was a military engineer. Is known more for his authorship of the five volume"Description de l'Univers' one of the earliest printed miniature, illustrated world history/geography books. It contains numerous decorative maps, views, portraits etc. which are the best source of reasonably priced material for the collector of early illustrated material. This map of Dublin. The capital city of Ireland is from the first French edition of 1683. It shows the city on both sides of the River Liffey with several ships approaching from the harbour. The city is very small with most development on the right bank. There is an attractive banner title. The engraving measures 5.5" by 4" Has later wash hand colouring, and is in good condition.
