Take a look at this magnificent piece! It’s a tiger sawn. Quarter sawn table– and I mean ALL over it– including the trunk, the legs, the claw feet, the rolled skirt and the top. It dates from 1900, in refinished condition. It has a split pedestal base with humongous claw feet and legs much, much bigger than normal, on a multi-turned fluted oversized column that splits in the middle, just like a Hastings, although I couldn’t find any manufacturer’s marking on this table. The table top is 54 inches round, with a rolled skirt, which means it isn’t flat but is concave, and really dresses up the table. The selection of veneer used on the top is the secret of this table’s beauty. It’s hard to duplicate this with solid wood, which is why they used lots of veneer back in those days. The veneer on this table top is in really nice condition, and there is only one spot you can see where there was a nick in a corner, which has been all repaired and is now fine. This table is all nice, tight and sturdy and ready for another 100 years of use, after being stripped, sanded, stained in a beautiful dark oak color that brings out the gorgeous grains, and then had multiple hand-rubbed coats of satin sheen lacquer applied for a durable finish that will last for years. Vintage Hand Carved Painted Wood Bent Man Table Base
For sale I have a vintage piece of hand carved hand painted wood furniture. It is a table base in the shape of a bent man who would hold the glass up with his neck. It is missing the glass piece. Cosmetically it is in good condition with some light scratches and minor wear. There are some natural cracks in the wood on the bottom but no chips or cracks elsewhere. It is signed on the bottom but I can't make out the signature. It measures about 22 x 13 x 19 inches and is very heavy. I do not want to ship it because it is bulky and heavy. It has a three leg pedestal base with birdcage on top. The top was refinished at some point in the past. It has wear and scratches and can use a refinishing again. This may be a good time to refresh the whole table. The hinge that releases and retains the top functions properly. I do not know anything about its provenance or history as far as who constructed it. It came from the estate of an older English couple. I am told that they owned it for over 60 years. I think that this table may be a marriage of a few different pieces. It appears that the pedestal is made of a brown colored wood and the base looks to be made of a more red colored mahogany. The pedestal may be walnut. The piece is very well done and displays well. The table top has a diameter of 17 3/4 inches. The table stands 24 inches tall and the base measures 16 inches by 16 inches. Super sweet antique enamel top kitchen table. Most likely from the war time 40s. Listen to jazz on your radio and curl your hair while drinking your coffee! I love this table.
