This trunk measures approximately 22" ... morelong X 14" wide X 15 1/2" high and it has two hinges in back that hold the lid securely to the base. There used to be sturdy leather handles on each side of the trunk but they are no longer intact, these can be purchased inexpensively on-line and they're fairly easy to replace. The corner protectors and hardware appear to be brass plated steel. There are two hasp type closures, one on each side of the lock and the lock needs to be bent just a little to close it securely. We tried the key and the locking mechanism seems to work properly but we didn't want to damage anything so it will arrive open with the key tucked in an envelope safely inside. The inside of the trunk is wood and there should be wood beneath the black material covering the outside(it is non-magnetic and we don't think it's metal) This little trunk is in very good condition and once it's restored it should be a beauty- perfect for your antique doll collection or as a gift for a very special grandchild. Antique Black Steamer Travel Trunk Leather Handles on Each End Front Latch NEAT!
This auction is for a vintage steamer trunk. I think this is the right wording for them. This is black, hinged lid, leather strap handles on each end. Two clasp closures on the front, the main lock is missing the bottom as you can see in the photos. The inside is papered. This is worn and discolored, it is the original. There is a wooden bar on each side where the shelf would sit, but is no longer with the trunk. Measures right at 36" wide, 21.5" deep and 24" tall. It has weight to it! Due to the size and weight it will be available for pick up only. This is a nice piece of history. Coming from a smoke free home. Good luck and happy bidding!

VTG Antique Old FANCY Cast Metal Chest Steamer Trunk Lock Latch Hardware Parts
This is a really neat heavy cast metal lock/latch which I believe came off a very old steamer trunk of sorts. It's in good used vintage condition with some surface wear and tarnish and I believe a tiny crack by the bottom bolt that you can't see from the front and doesn't seem to affect its use whatsoever.please view pictures for any further description/condition. It measures just under 5 5/8" tall x 3" wide in the locked latched position. Don't forget to take a look at all my other unique vintage hardware I have listed as well. Antique English Metal Steamer Trunk Registry Mark on Brass Latch NJ marked on top Stringer. With other illegible word, then Cumberland County, NJ. This is such an awesome piece! I've never seen a metal trunk before and when I examined it more closely I saw the English registry mark on the latch along with double lion imprint. See photos. The trunk has bright blue painted interior(probably not original) Measures 24" length by 17" wide and 16" tall. One side is missing the 2 bottom metal straps and there are 2 holes on the bottom side where the screws would have been in place. It's got series of raised points on the top to prevent crushing during travel. It's in all original condition. Great rare steamer trunk all the way from Europe! Antique Vintage Wood Doll Handkerchief Glove Box Trunk Latch & Bentwood Handles
Fresh from an upstate New York estate! This offering is for a primitive light wooden box or doll trunk measuring 12" wide. 6 1/4" deep and 5 1/2" high. I believe it to be a handmade doll trunk as I found a primitive"Mammy" rag doll and an old celluloid doll inside(sold separately) but it could have also been used as a glove or handkerchief box. The trunk consists of wood panels nailed together with three narrow slats attached on top and one on the front. The wood finish is richly aged but there are stains near the old nail heads- which only gives it more character. To each end there is a bentwood handle. These look like they were an afterthought to the original construction. The front has an old aged tin lever latch. When the lever is vertical the box is latched shut. When flipped to the left, the box latch is open. ... moreInside the cover is attached a paper picture of a Victorian dressed woman. The bottom of the trunk is papered but the paper is stained and torn. A strap of burlap to the left side is no longer attached to it's nail to hold the cover from flopping back. The only splits in the wood slats are two short edge splits on the bottom. Each is aprox. 2" long and does not affect the structural integrity of the box.
