Authentic, Vintage LOUIS VUITTON Steamer Trunk Hard Sided Luggage Circa 1910
Original Louis Vuitton Monogramed Steamer Trunk circa 1910-1920" This highly detailed Vuitton Trunk is an amazing survivor. Its extensive brass fittings(including the brass rivets) bear the"LV" stamp as does the leather trim work. The brass locking clasp is marked with"70 CHAMPS ELYSEES PARIS LOUIS VUITTON LONDON 149 NEW BOND STREET MADE IN FRANCE" The inside of the lid is marked with the number 737608 in black ink. Its condition strikes us as quite amazing. And the characteristic imprinted fabric is in splendid condition. The two leather strap handles at either end of the trunk are not in place, but one handle survives in part and is included in this auction. The interior tray is missing, although the handsome monogramed fabric covered interior of the top is in beautiful shape. Labels and ID number are intact and ... moreappear where they should be. The tip of the encircling leather strap is missing several inches at the connecting end though the receiving end is intact. There is no key but these are easily purchased. This is a numbered leather rounded top steamer trunk circa 1854 to 1867. The company started in 1854 and in 1867 changed the look to canvas and the top to a flat surface for better stacking. This trunk has a little recent damage to one outside corner from my daughters cats scratching but I think that can be smoothed out with the right tool. The trunk is over 100 years old so the outside is worn but it is in good condition in spite of the scratches. The inside is in beautiful condition with a wonderfully intack. Clean tray and 3 compartments below the tray with the ties still there to hold your clothes down? The outside leather handles are still there and in good condition. I never allowed anyone to move the trunk by using these handles. I also have a key to the trunk. There are, it seems to me, old European hotel sticker marks on the outside. ... moreI actually have some of these old, beautifully colored stickers from the 1950's or earlier that I would sell separtley. This piece of luggage is a real collectable Louis Vuitton and in better condition than any I have seen sold at other sales. The outside of the trunk has been stained. But the stripes from the original fabric are very visible. The inside is covered with the original pink striped ticking. It does have staining and wear on the inside. The original locks have been changed by a previous owner. Dimensions are: 43 inches long, 27.5 inches high, 24 inch depth. This old wardrobe steamer trunk is from the 1920's era. It no doubt carried clothing. Documents, and treasures for fellows like Gatsby himself or a passenger on the Titanic. An original nail file was found tucked away in one of its drawers waiting to be found by generations later. The 8 drawers are linen lined. And I think the briefcase is as well. The top of the wardrobe area opens up to reveal a majestic deep purple velvet material. There is a lever behind the drawers that keeps the drawers from opening up during transportation. VINTAGE STEAMER TRUNK - CIRCA 1920'S - 1930'S - WONDEROBE SEWARD
This is a upright Steamer Trunk by"Seward Trunk and Bag Company" The plaque says"Wonderrobe" Estimated that it was made during the 1920"s or 1930's. The original trunk color was olive green but has changed over the years to a soft brown. It has all of its accessories including the hat form that snaps in and out to hold a fashion hat in place which was a bonus during it's day. There are six hanging racks. Two for dresses. Two for coats and two for slacks. They are held in place by a stabilizer bar. The bottom of the left side of the trunk has a pop out drawer. The top drawer is sectioned and has the lock but no key. The top of the trunk lifts to allow easy access to the racks. See photo#5. Two of the drawers have the tie down straps to hold clothing in place. The lock is missing as well as the leather handle. ... moreAll of the metal(brass? edges are in excellent shape. No dents. No missing bullets and it has all of its corner pieces. Most of these trunks are missing the leather handle but I do have the handle which is not attached. All of the hardware is in good condition not rusted or broken. The main lock is missing. The only damage is to the top which is cracked mostly on the edge which lifts up. see photo#8) The fabric on the drawers shows some wear but just to the right edges. See photo#1. For your information I received this trunk from the woman we bought our first house from 38 years ago. She told us that her husband traveled across the ocean with all his belongings in this trunk. Beautiful Louis Vuitton Antique/Vintage Steamer Trunk up for auction. Made in France! The trunk in my opinion is in good condition. It does show signs of normal vintage wear for being over 100 yrs old. But with that wear and patina comes character and a story of elegant taste well traveled. This would be an amazing display or conversation piece. I think even as a coffee or end table and I've had some customers get lucite boxes made around them to use as tables as well and create a floating look inside. So many possible ideas with this unique piece of history. This is the Holy Grail of Fashion history! The trunk is early 1900's. The highest model you could have bought back then, this reflects in the brass handles as opposed to the leather handle option. Brass hardware is in very good shape as well and not nearly as tarnished as many others I have seen. The trunk has the infamous LV monogrammed pattern throughout, and comes with the original key. The wear on this item is on the bottom sides from traveling, more so scuff marks. A large wardrobe trunk made by Henry Likly of Rochester. N.Y. established 1844. Extremely well made. And equipped with beautiful oak slats and ball castors on the bottom end. This fine trunk is complete. Fully functional, and in excellent vintage condition. It is signed with a brass plaque outside and a paper label inside. It is ink stamped Patented December 12. 1911. It comes with the original key. This rare American trunk was beautifully made in the same style of the famous much more expensive ones. They were told that it had belonged to a World War II Nurse who took it overseas with her during her service time. We have no idea who this woman was other than the initials on the trunk"M.A.B. How great if a family member saw this ad& brought it home! This old Wardrobe Trunk(also known as" Traveling Wardrobe" is a LAUB'S LUGGAGE Baggage Builders brand. Manufactured in Louisville, Kentucky. Its heavy& well made, in very good condition inside& outside, with obvious age related scars, but no major flaws. Experts state these style trunks have seen a popularity surge in the past few years. While it was originally designed to stand on end for easy access. It can be used flat for a coffee table ... moreor upright to store items in the four drawers of various sizes. It also still has the original wooden clothing hangers on the left side(in excellent condition) on an extending chrome rod& it even has the extra cover that snaps over the lower section for shoes&or valuables. One of the hangers looks like a boat anchor& is sometimes referred to as a"Princess" hanger. But both men& women used these because their purpose was to keep something like a jacket in place during transit, as to prevent wrinkles. Because these trunks look awesome opened. In an old-fashioned bedroom with vintage style clothes hanging inside, they are mostly used for decorative purposes; however they also offer useful storage space since they're very roomy. The outside is black in color& the inside is a medium blue. The long side is flat but when standing upright. Trunk Description: Approximate measurements: 30” wide. 15” tall, 15” deep. A travel trunk manufactured and labeled by Louis Vuitton of Paris. France, circa early 1900's. A leather covered trunk with leather corner bindings and brass latches, lock, and rivets. The trunk serial number is 181974, stamped on the inside lining next to the label as typical. The Louis Vuitton signature style label, showing the Paris and London retail addresses, is in very good condition. The trunk was made sometime between about 1910 to 1930 based on the serial number, but only the Louis Vuitton company has the records which can identify the actual age of the trunk. The brown leather covering shows typical signs of aging and wear, and there is a small piece missing on the front of the lid. The leather corner binding is in good condition with some rubbed spots. ... moreThe center leather tie-down strap is missing, but the leather strap holders are present except the one over the lock. The two side handles are missing and the rivcts for the handles holders are present. There are several partial paper travel stickers on the trunk which do not add any specific history for the trunk. The interior lift out trays are missing as well as the lower divider pieces which are removable. The lining is in fair to good condition with some small stains and small tears. The leather on the bottom of the trunk is aged and cracked, but present and the three wood slats are all marked with the name and have the original iron rollers. This trunk was advertised by Louis Vuitton as a flat top“Boot and Shoe Trunk” according to descriptions from early Louis Vuitton catalogs. Sizes of these trunks varied a little over the years. Antique Bisque/porcelain baby in steamer trunk box. Precious Baggage” This is a beautiful sweet antique bisque/porcelain box depicting a baby in a steamer trunk named“Precious Baggage” This is from an estate sale. It belonged to a little lady that was born in 1908 and was a gift when she was born. Box: The box is very interesting. It measures 4 inches wide. 2-7/8 inches deep, and 4-1/4 inches from bottom of box to top of lid opening. It has a label on the box like a tag in slick shiny porcelain saying“Precious Baggage” trimmed in gold. The box has an open lid that is fixed. It does not move. It is painted on the front and the end sides. There is no paint on the back of the trunk or the back of the lid. There is some small missing paint on the edge of the box on the foot end of the baby and a scratch on the upper lid on the same end. You can ... morefeel the missing paint. It may be small scratches but it does not feel like chips. If it is chipped, it is very slight. The nick on the top of the box on the underneath lid edge is a small chip. Please see the pictures as they really best describe the box and figurine. BABY: The baby that is packed in the trunk is a dollface. She has a little blue outfit. Stripped socks and a little cap or bonnet that matches the dress. There are little gold trimmed dots on the dress. The paint on her face is detailed very nicely. All paint is intact. Eyes are blue; lips are reddish pink. Hair light brown, eyebrows intact. One hand and one foot show. Cheek color and overall face color very good and bright. Summary: This little antique box is?porcelain or bisque. The tag“Precious Baggage” is slick porcelain and gold trimmed. The baby is in great condition with all paint intact on dress and face. Shiny gold dots trim the dress. Box is nice size at 4 inches across the front. 2-7/8 inches deep and 4-1/4 inches from bottom to top of lid.
