It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. Today you can go anywhere in the entire world within 24 hours by plane. Just think way back when before commercial airlines. People traveled primarily by railroad or by ship. Traveling was long, hard, and exhausting. People would literally live out of these trunks as they traveled for weeks and sometimes months on end. Thus. They were built with quality and built to last, which is why they have stood the test of time! The craftsmanship that went into the construction and design of theses ole’ trunks are truly nothing short of spectacular. I recently discovered this wardrobe trunk buried in the rafters in the attic of a local farm house estate in a in nearby town. It stopped me dead in tracks and I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor! There was no way I was leaving without this trunk. And lucky for me I had hubby to carry it out of the attic and down 3 flits of stairs! And now for the decription… This is a nice authentic period Wardrobe steamer trunk. It is signed on the exterior by the maker Oshkosh Trunk Company. I am unsure of the exact age. But it was clearly left where I had found it for a very very long time. If I had to guestimate I would say it is likely from the early 20 th century. It measures 40 x 22 x 20 inches and weighs 75 pounds respectfully. The exterior is covered with what appears to be a volcanized material with dozens of original brass. Nails, knobs Hinges, Lock and hardware. The lock comes with key and functions as designed. On the interior right side. The trunk has 5 wood drawers with original deco drawer pulls and covered in swanky antique fabric. These trunks are some of the largest and heaviest ever made and are designed to stand on end for packing or open use. One half of the trunk, usually the right half, is filled with drawers while the other half has clothes hangers, usually a shoe box, and sometimes an ironing board and even a flat iron. Pity the people who had to move these monsters around, most are heavy even when empty! Wardrobe trunks have become more and more popular just in the last few years. Many are restored and then used in bedrooms of small apartments as a combination chest of drawers and closet. Most of them were made in the 1920s and 1930s with some going back nearer the turn of the century. Note how the upper part of the left half of the one above opens up to allow better access to the hangers. The two chrome rods in the same area telescope out to give the hangers more room when the trunk is open. Aren't you just drawn to these old trunks?To me. They represent a much simpler time in this country. It's that emotional connection that makes them so appealing to collectors, and will only increase the value of the piece in time. Its extensive brass fittings(including the brass rivets) bear the"LV" stamp as does the leather trim work. This is a numbered leather rounded top steamer trunk circa 1854 to 1867. The company started in 1854 and in 1867 changed the look to canvas and the top to a flat surface for better stacking. This trunk has a little recent damage to one outside corner from my daughters cats scratching but I think that can be smoothed out with the right tool. The trunk is over 100 years old so the outside is worn but it is in good condition in spite of the scratches. The inside is in beautiful condition with a wonderfully intack. Clean tray and 3 compartments below the tray with the ties still there to hold your clothes down? The outside leather handles are still there and in good condition. I never allowed anyone to move the trunk by using these handles. I also have a key to the trunk. This trunk is early 1890's. It is in beautiful condition for a 120-year-old steamer trunk. It has a very low serial number 15792. You can see in the photos the steel bottom with the Louis Vuitton stamp on both ends. With the steel bottom and wooden slats. This trunk is very sturdy. It has the original casters. The outside of the trunk has been stained. But the stripes from the original fabric are very visible. The inside is covered with the original pink striped ticking. This is a upright Steamer Trunk by"Seward Trunk and Bag Company" The plaque says"Wonderrobe" Estimated that it was made during the 1920"s or 1930's. The original trunk color was olive green but has changed over the years to a soft brown. It has all of its accessories including the hat form that snaps in and out to hold a fashion hat in place which was a bonus during it's day. There are six hanging racks. Two for dresses. Two for coats and two for slacks. They are held in place by a stabilizer bar. The bottom of the left side of the trunk has a pop out drawer. The top drawer is sectioned and has the lock but no key. The top of the trunk lifts to allow easy access to the racks. See photo#5. Two of the drawers have the tie down straps to hold clothing in place. The lock is missing as well as the leather handle. ... moreAll of the metal(brass? edges are in excellent shape. No dents. No missing bullets and it has all of its corner pieces. Most of these trunks are missing the leather handle but I do have the handle which is not attached. All of the hardware is in good condition not rusted or broken. The main lock is missing. The only damage is to the top which is cracked mostly on the edge which lifts up. see photo#8) The fabric on the drawers shows some wear but just to the right edges. See photo#1. For your information I received this trunk from the woman we bought our first house from 38 years ago. She told us that her husband traveled across the ocean with all his belongings in this trunk. It does show signs of normal vintage wear for being over 100 yrs old. But with that wear and patina comes character and a story of elegant taste well traveled. Large Wardrobe Trunk Full Size Antique Vintage Steamer Chest like LV circa 1911
A large wardrobe trunk made by Henry Likly of Rochester. N.Y. established 1844. Extremely well made. And equipped with beautiful oak slats and ball castors on the bottom end. This fine trunk is complete. Fully functional, and in excellent vintage condition. It is signed with a brass plaque outside and a paper label inside. It is ink stamped Patented December 12. 1911. It comes with the original key. This rare American trunk was beautifully made in the same style of the famous much more expensive ones. It also still has the original wooden clothing hangers on the left side(in excellent condition) on an extending chrome rod& it even has the extra cover that snaps over the lower section for shoes&or valuables. One of the hangers looks like a boat anchor& is sometimes referred to as a"Princess" hanger. But both men& women used these because their purpose was to keep something like a jacket in place during transit, as to prevent wrinkles. Because these trunks look awesome opened. In an old-fashioned bedroom with vintage style clothes hanging inside, they are mostly used for decorative purposes; however they also offer useful storage space since they're very roomy. The outside is black in color& the inside is a medium blue. The long side is flat but when standing upright. Antique Bisque/porcelain baby in steamer trunk box. Precious Baggage” This is a beautiful sweet antique bisque/porcelain box depicting a baby in a steamer trunk named“Precious Baggage” This is from an estate sale. It belonged to a little lady that was born in 1908 and was a gift when she was born. Box: The box is very interesting. It measures 4 inches wide. 2-7/8 inches deep, and 4-1/4 inches from bottom of box to top of lid opening. It has a label on the box like a tag in slick shiny porcelain saying“Precious Baggage” trimmed in gold. The box has an open lid that is fixed. It does not move. It is painted on the front and the end sides. There is no paint on the back of the trunk or the back of the lid. There is some small missing paint on the edge of the box on the foot end of the baby and a scratch on the upper lid on the same end. You can ... morefeel the missing paint. It may be small scratches but it does not feel like chips. If it is chipped, it is very slight. The nick on the top of the box on the underneath lid edge is a small chip. Please see the pictures as they really best describe the box and figurine. BABY: The baby that is packed in the trunk is a dollface. She has a little blue outfit. Stripped socks and a little cap or bonnet that matches the dress. There are little gold trimmed dots on the dress. The paint on her face is detailed very nicely. All paint is intact. Eyes are blue; lips are reddish pink. Hair light brown, eyebrows intact. One hand and one foot show. Cheek color and overall face color very good and bright. Summary: This little antique box is?porcelain or bisque. The tag“Precious Baggage” is slick porcelain and gold trimmed. The baby is in great condition with all paint intact on dress and face. Shiny gold dots trim the dress. Box is nice size at 4 inches across the front. 2-7/8 inches deep and 4-1/4 inches from bottom to top of lid.
