It does have some light surface scratches and wear from general use, but no major damage or gouges. It has beautiful grain, some carved accent details, and is designed in a way that the grain of different sections runs in different directions, which gives it a uniquely beautiful look. It was made by the Roos Company in Illinois, and has a partial original label on the bottom, which has the serial number. The chest is 18.5” tall, 44” long, 19” wide, and 11” deep when the lid is open. It is made to lock, however, there is not a key with it.

The manufacture date was April 21, 1954. I received the chest in the early-to-mid 70s and had it professionally refinished with a walnut stain in 1979. Beautiful Rare 1927 Antique Lane Cedar Hope Blanket Chest Style# 48910 This Lane Hope Chest was made on May. 9th 1927 In 1912 John Edward Lane bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista. Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Early production of about ten chests a day was sold through independent salesmen working on commission. In its early days. The business was run on a shoestring budget. Nearby buildings were rented as ... moredemand grew, with finished parts transferred from one building to another by means of a mule-drawn carriage. Antique 1926 2 Level Solid Roos Cedar Hope Chest Blanket Storage LOCAL P/U ONLY
STUNNING ANTIQUE 1926 ROOS CEDAR HOPE CHEST! The Ed Roos Company. Based in Forest Park, IL, was in business from 1916-1951 and made chests in popular styles from Edwardian to Art Deco. Featuring double locks and two levels. This beautiful Hope Chest is multi-functional and a great collectors piece! The first shelf has four felt compartments including one large area that you can strap down a blanket or anything really! The largest compartment under the first shelf is lined with thick paper with holes. This method is used to protect both the cedar and any items stored. Articles and cloths along with other items can stick to the cedar and possibly ruin both. The lining helps the cedar breath. And keeps items from attaching to the wood. The entire Chest has wood inlay around the body. And lovely carved embellishment around the edges. The picture ... moreshows a felt pad preventing the chest to close completely due to the lock periodically sticking. It can be opened. Just difficult sometimes. This is a fixable mechanical issue. I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa 1920s- 40s Cedar Chest. The chest is in very clean original condition! It measures approx 45-1/4" long. 20" deep, approx 19-1/2" tall which includes the 1" castor height. The chest is in Excellent Condition- nice clean original finish- strong& sturdy- has a flat top which would be strong enough to sit on- that is unless you are over 300 lbs then I would not advise it. Some normal light age wear as one would expect. The only damage to note is a fairly inconspicuous chip/ slivered off piece- located on the front lower right. Shown up close in pics 10& 12. This is not something that is very noticeable at all, the sliver was done many years back and it has been stained over and the only way you will notice it, is if you look upclose with scrutiny. There is some ... moreslight wear to the metal bands, but its very light- nothing serious. The hinge works perfectly and the little metal elbow for holding the top up, when opened,works just fine. I do not have the key for the lock and not sure if the lock works. Lovely. Vintage, Late 1940's or early 1950's, Lane Cedar Hope Chest. Chest measures approximately 47-1/4" wide, 22-3/4" tall and 18-1/2" in depth. The Chest is in the Art Deco Style. There is a top self which is divided in two parts with original green felt liner. The chest has the original paperwork included. The locks were repaired with a safety lock in September, 2013. New key and instruction sheet included. The underside of the chest has style number 2231, and serial# 846230. The inside of the chest is in good condition. The outside of the chest shows signs of age and has some scratches and wear, from being relocated a few times, but is in good condition for its age. The three rear hinges open and close well. Nice Acme RED cedar chest. It was made by Acme Cedar Chest Company in South Bend, Indiana. Their is a lock but it needs a key. It is still very aromatic.smells like cedar. There are 4 copper straps on the top and down the front in their natural patina. The chest is 47 in long x 16 inches tall and 21 inches wide. THIS IS A RARE CHEST.DATES BETWEEN 1890-1916.
