Beautifully Carved Antique English Oak Coffer Three front raised panels are elegantly carved with fine acanthus leaf motif. The 7/8" solid top is made with breadboard ends. The 1" thick sides are panelled and beaded. The back consists of two reverse-raised panels in a 1" thick frame. The skirted bottom conceals a set of four small metal casters. The inside is all open. This piece shows beautiful rich dark brown patina throughout. This coffer took some considerable skill to build and. Although it is an antique with the usual slight bumps, it's excellent condition reflects the care with which this piece was crafted and treated through the years. The hinges and locking mechanism(no key) are solid brass. The top shows a couple of age cracks that are normal for a piece of this vintage. This beautifully carved oak wall cabinet was discovered during a property refurbishment. Still being in daily use despite being well over 100 years old and certainly built to last. Clearly cherished by it's former owner and having achieved a warm patination through the use of beeswax polish over a number of years. The solid english oak cabinet measures 27"x 21"x 8" Has an interior shelf and working lock and key. Each side panel and front is carved with acorns and oak leaves and the entwining oak branches to the front, form an Art Nouveau influenced heart design. Very charming and particularly well executed. No seals or tags. Two witness signatures on verso. Very Good. The signature areas at gutter excised from document. Discoloration spot. It is not marked with a size, but it appears to be FULL sized by eyeing it and measurements are provided below. This bridle is a rich and luxurious, deep mahogany brown in color with slightly contrasting stitching and silver-tone hardware. The caveson and browband are expertly SQUARE RAISED for a beautiful effect. This bridle has been used but is overall in GREAT SHAPE! It simply looks lightly broken in with the typical, mild signs of use and wear associated with that, such as darkening, discoloration, mild surface wear/scuffs/smoothing, indents above the holes, ect. There is a little dimply in the middle of the caveson—on the underside—from where there may have been a flash attachment, but based on the stitching, it doesn’t look to have been modified so I don’t know what the deal is here…just wanted to point it out. This is such a nice bridle that is beautifully made from HIGH QUALITY English leather which is wonderfully supple, soft and complimented by impeccable craftsmanship!
