Item# 120011RYI24 ... moreThis listing is for a remarkable and very fine Sheraton Pembroke table of the Federal Period. Crafted in New York during the first quarter of the 19th Century. It is a magnificent work, using the most incredible solid mahogany boards available for the overall presentation. Each leaf is a very broad single plank of full grained glowing mahogany, the middle most board a full 21 1/4" across the grain; each was flawlessly planed by hand until the surface was perfectly smooth, at which point a french polish was applied. This is a labor intensive and difficult finish to apply, layer after countless layer of shellac being rubbed into the surface by hand, but when done properly the result is breathtaking. The surface absolutely shimmers, the deep reds of the mahogany glowing through with utter brilliance. The leaves are notched and rounded. Giving an overall"cloud" form to each hanging surface, these lifting over hand forged iron hinges with entirely original screws. The top projects just slightly over the front, lining up perfectly along the sides such that the leaves rest squarely against the frame when in dropped form. One side of the table has a faux drawer with cockbead molding around it. The other side has a very deep drawer without cockbead molding, both having bold original polished brass stamped handles. Inside of the drawer. A white label is affixed on the left side from a dealer who once carried the table"Edwin C. This amazing table features realistic features and exquisite detailing. The table consists of a large eagle with outstetched wings resting on a raised plinth. The eagle has deep patterning and realistic details all in a beautiful gilded finish. The fabulous marble top is black with beautiful white veins. It is finished with a gorgeous curved frieze and egg and dart design. This table is probably Italian made. 4 table legs from an old walnut(I think) dining room table. They have been overpainted cream color. 29" long. They still have the original metal casters on the bottom. They are nicely turned and reeded. Federal style. Originally they were attached to a part of the table with bolts& wing nuts. These are still attached. Repurpose! This unusual sewing cabinet has seven-sided beveled wood sides. It is a very sturdy. All original piece made of solid mahogany with three drawers, one with a sliding compartment for thread and other sewing notions. It also has two flip-top compartments on either end for sewing or knitting supplies. Measurements are 28 1/2"W x 14 1/2" D x 30"H. This piece has been in my family(my grandmother's) for at least 55 years, but could be older. The finish overall looks very good, except for the top which has some discoloration in the finish,some scratches typical of a piece of this age.
