Tea Table features nice deep color and grain pattern. With a scalloped skirt resting on four cabriole legs with slight carving to knees, with protective hard rubber foot terminal ending. There are no candle slides on this model. Construction is rock solid steady with stamped markings underneath, but no maker name, could be any one of several small factories making colonial reproductions of good quality well before the internet and big box store days. Glue blocks on corners undererneath are nice and sound. This is all solid wood, not a cheap chip board foreign mahogany lookalike with sprayed laquer finish that looks garish in person! Condition Report: Slight rub mark to leg as shown. Small burn mark on top. General wear and tear of a used piece. But not abuse; I will clean it up before pickup as I do with all my dealer furniture to presentation quality ready for your home. Vintage Mahogany Dresser Mirror Potthast Bros. Federal Style Beautiful! LQQK!
This is a Vintage Mahogany Dresser Mirror. Also referred to as a Shaving Mirror or Shaving Stand, hand made by Potthast Brothers in the 1930's. As is typical Potthast, the details on this piece are exquisitely done. The mahogany wood grain is wonderfully rich and the turnings are a masterpiece. There are 3 drawers, and the dovetails on the drawers are cut by hand. The knobs are delicately turned. The mirror is held in place by solid brass thumb pieces carefully inlaid into the posts. The top of the cabinet section is inset and the sides are framed by short turned columns which add an interesting touch and create balance. It measures 24 inches wide by 25 1/4 inches tall to the top of the spindle posts by 9 inches deep. The mirror itself in it's frame is 20 inches by 16 inches. This piece would make a handsome and functional addition ... moresitting on top of a dresser. I took the photos outdoors so the lighting would show the condition of this piece and the beautiful wood grain. There are some small dings and scratches to the finish which. I believe add to the character of the piece. There is some color fading from sunlight on the surface behind the mirror. The Potthast Brothers Furniture Company was founded in 1892 by brothers Vincent. John, Theodore and William who came to Baltimore from Westphalia, Germany. A fifth brother remained in Germany and was also a furniture maker. The business and showroom was located in the prestigious building at 964 N Charles Street in Baltimore. We had the pleasure of spending time with Theodore and his wife who lived a shore distance from our home when we lived in Baltimore. In 1996. Potthast Brothers were included in a New York Times article reviewing the best furniture makers in America. The size of this piece affects the shipping cost. Mahogany Highboy 18th Century Revival New England Style Tallboy Chest of Drawers
Beautiful and elegant highboy(also referred to as a tallboy and chest of drawers) This 20th century piece is a revival of the 18th century New England style and design. Finished in a rich. Warm mahogany veneer, the highboy features shell/ fan carvings on both the upper and lower portions. Behind the carving pieces are drawers. The shell carvings are accented with brass, key-shaped knobs. The brass drawer handles on the piece are all intact and matching. The bottom front edges have attractive. Carved designs. As expected in older furniture. The piece has areas of imperfections, use, and wear. There is ample and notable scratching throughout the piece. The scratches appear to be more superficial than deeply gouged. Likewise, there are nicks/ scuffs throughout the piece and notably along the edge of the bottom apron edge. The front has some ... morediscoloration, where it may have been stained. There are a few areas of small raised staining on the front drawers, giving a"caked on" appearance. This may be removable, but I would leave that to the new owner. Two of the four feet are intact, while one is missing and another is split. The piece still sits evenly, as all four legs are intact. The upper right(facing the piece) side molding is missing, revealing the wood beneath it. Looking head on, I do not find this to be apparent, and the piece could be positioned to have that side towards the wall. The top shell-carved drawer has a split extending from the design to the outer edge. At one point, there may have been a finial extending from the middle, top section. This is not an extensive list, but among the highlights. Please examine the piece in person to determine the condition for your expectations.
