This ... moreis beautifully Rosemaled trunk from the very early period of Norwegian pioneering i mmigration to North America. Front and both sides are elaborated hand painted with floral motifs. T he lock is period to the time. As would be the nails and wooden pegs used. No key for the lock though. The trunk is solidly built with the hand forged metal plates reinforc ing sides and top. Inside is relatively clean- no major issues- wood work has stood test of times. A few scuff marks here and there. As would be normal for a trunk of this age. This auction is for a super nice solid antique oxford cherry wood 4 drawer bachelors chest by Statton Trutype Americana furniture company. This chest is 41 1/2"wide X 35 1/2" high and has 4 drawers. Two top drawers that are 4 1/2" deep and two bottom drawers that are 5 1/2" deep. These drawers all have dovetail joints and are in great condition with no breaks. Loose joints or repairs that have been done of anykind and also are not missing any hardware. The pull handles on this chest all have the Americana eagle or bird design on them with the three stars above and are all complete and attached but do show some fadeing and ware in the brass finish. There is also a decorative brass key hole in the center of each drawer that looks great. Inside the top drawer is the burn stamp that reads STATTON TRUTYPE AMERICANA. There is ... morealso a tag on the back that reads ORDER# 10969. RECIEVED DATE oct. 11, 1966. Oxford Antique Cherry. There is also a marking on the back of the chest itself that reads OXFORD ANTIQUE CHERRY. Unique Antique Corner Wood Dresser
This beauty is not too big but not too small. It is triangular shape to fit nicely into a corner. The drawers are triangular so you'll lose some storage space compared to full length drawers. I do not know much about it's origin other than my parents bought it at auction over 25 years ago. It is in nice condition for its age and does not have any dings or dents worth mentioning; it does not appear to have ever been refinished. The top surface is smooth and I could have done a better job getting rid of my fingerprints which I didn't notice until I downloaded the photos. I do not know the type of wood. If I were to guess. LIGHTING Chippendale Style Mahogany Chest of Drawers w/ Reverse Serpentine Form Probably England c. 20th Century Item# 120003LOP25 This attractive and well crafted chest of drawers is of reverse serpentine form. A reproduction of the English originals of the late 18th Century. A large veneered mahogany top is surrounded by an applied molding with fine carving, projecting broadly over a collection of four graduated drawers. The bevelled and fluted corner columns flank the drawers, each drawer of deep serpentine form, the flamed mahogany veneers framed in cockbead molding applied around the edges of the drawer, hiding the machine dovetail construction of the drawers on the front. These are exposed on the backs of each drawer, with oak secondary ... morewoods completing the frame of the drawers for a solid frame built to last. The case rests over four bracket feet, the front two bevelled for appropriate finish. This fine chest is firm and solid; the proportions are excellent for functional use in the home. Each drawer deep and clean with easy sliding action. Seller added the following information: Inlaid with geometric banding and flower head motifs. The folding cover revealing small drawers, the tapered square legs joined by an X-shaped stretcher, on castors. This pretty table is inspired by eighteenth and nineteenth century designs. The upper section with similar banded inlay to that found on Victorian writing boxes. The tapered square legs and the stretchers reminiscent of furniture from the George III and Federal period. It would have been very fashionable at the time of manufacture and this style of furniture was sought after for most of the twentieth century.
