Circa 1850. Originally part of a complete miniature children's historical Staffordshire tea set, the little rococo shaped sugar box stands 4” tall and round on a raised pedestal base, with a flower finial and molded handles. and The set has a floral border trim(along the collar as well as the rims) finished with pearlware glaze. The set is transfer printed in a rich and earthy green. It is decorated in the scarce EVA pattern. Depicting a young girl sitting with her arm around a lion or huge dog, possibly a Newfoundland breed. The"Eva" transferware ... morepattern was presumably made for the American market shortly after the anti-slavery Harriet Beecher Stowe's book'UNCLE TOM'S CABIN' was published in 1852. The young girl in the image is said to be Evangeline St Clare. The virtuous character'Eva' the daughter of Augustine St. Clare. Who Tom rescued from drowning. She in turn, helped shape the rest of his life. In later life, he spent much of his time with the angelic Eva, who personifies the virtues of selfless love and forgiveness. The original source print for the Eva illustration can be traced to a colored lithograph print from the same period in original period framing by a Cincinnati frame shop. We are attaching a photo of the source print for reference purposes only. The sugar is unmarked. Other pieces in this pattern are found marked with the pattern name EVA and the initials BH& Co. This is a beautiful antique biscuit jar with lid. Marked Elite Limoges France(Bawo& Dotter) dating accordingly to the mark ca. 1896-1900. The jar is 5" high without lid. 6 3/4" with lid. And 7" wide from handle to handle. The piece is decorated with two different bouquets of pink and red flowers on peach background and it seems to be hand painted. The graceful handles are trimmed with gold. The body of the jar has an unusual swirled shape. The jar is in excellent condition with no cracks. Chips nor repairs. It appears to be hand painted with a sail ship passing a lighthouse on the sea. There is a definite change of colours from the green/blue seas to the clear blue sky. I figure this piece hails from the mid to late 1850s because it is unmarked(not required at time of manufacturing) and the pewter lid has been soldered onto the porcelain and this has broken off somewhat(see picture 3) The pewter lid should have a*pin* going through the holes to hold the lid onto the bowl which is missing. Certainly not a perfect piece however a very old pretty piece. The porcelain has been banged or been dropped as there are two*cracks* on the ... moreinside back of the piece. The pewter lid someone has taken a piece of steel wool to it so scratched and on the back right hand side the pewter has either flaked off or come into contact with acid. This piece stands 3/4" tall from base to top of pewter lid and is 3 1/2" wide. If you have any questions please do not hesitate in asking me. Or older, Qing Dynasty. About 1 3/4 inches tall. Condition as shown with various little frits/chips to the mouths. Nicely hollowed. It weighs about 41 grams. Mrs. Mary Morrison. Was a collector, former museum curator and lecturer on Asian art at the University of British Columbia, Canada. She also played an important role in creating the Canadian Society for Asian Arts which got its start in Vancouver in 1968. Over her lifetime, she collected a fabulous collection of Chinese antiques, mostly snuff bottles, and porcelain. ANTIQUE DELFT PORCELAIN CIGARETTE JAR+LID ~Trinket Box Canister Container Pot
Antique Delft Jar circa 1969 I purchased this jar in Delft Holland in 1969. I believe this was sold as a decorative cigarette holder at the time. The jar is a straight cylinder and has a lid with an inner lip to hold it in place. Stands 3" tall and 2.5" wide. Lovely floral pattern in classic blue + white. Marked on the underside"Delft Holland" and initials that look like YLS. Has been displayed in the past but never had anything stored inside; clean as a whistle inside. There is overall crazing in the glaze giving it a nice antique patina. The lid has several tiny dings on the underside visible in the last photo; these don't show with the lid in place. There is also a crack in the glaze on the jar's top rim visible in the last photo; there's no chip or break in the pottery though. Appears to be in the glaze ... morealone, and doesn't show with the lid in place. Very clean; no stains or odors; from a non-smoking home and owner. I accept ALL forms of payment.
