About 11 years later, on December 28, 1919 Sheffield finally decided to protect their name and registered it at the U.S. Patent Office under manufacturers for plated silverware and holloware. Louis Farber purchased the Sheffield Silver Company in 1935. Found at estate sale: This is an antique quadruple plate lidded creamer with saucer made by New Amsterdam Silver Company probably late 1800 to early 1900. Both pieces are marked on the bottom with the#615 and the company hallmark as shown in the pictures. Most of the silverplate is worn away and there are blackened areas. But it still maintains a great appearance with hinged lid, decorative handle, spout, and finial, little flower on the lid, and beading around the top rim. There is one shallow dent on the creamer, and the inner lid is slightly mis-shapened. The saucer is 4.75" in diameter and the creamer is 5.25" high and 5.0" wide from spout to handle. Estimate of the date for this tray is about 1915 to 1920 based on the design elements and the general products for this company at that time. Measuring 10" across. It rises only enough for an easy grasp of the edge. Lifting gracefully from the inner edge with sleek lines that pass through an implied rim by the circle of an organic based raised motif with an accenting geometric pierced element, we believe this is a transitional design piece from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. The tray dates from the early 20th century and has a hammered band around the edge of the tray and a letter D in the center. Tiffany& Company Makers This auction is for an Antique Tiffany& Co. Saute or Frying Pan. It is 9 inches in diameter and 2.25 inches deep. It is marked Tiffany& Co. Makers. 11263(pattern# from 1892) Soldered Silver, E.P. The lid with this pan is missing it's finial. The handle is solid and looks like bone but may be Bakelite. The silver is really bright and the patina is clear. I was unable to take the best photographs. My pics show up more scratches than can be seen with the naked eye. Most of the silver is still present. It doesn't look like it's been used more than once or twice. There is a clouding of the silver at the bottom of the pan and the top is out of round a bit in two places. There is also a pin-prick dent in the pan. The lid is monogrammed. I understand silver is a great conductor of heat and these pans ... moreare reputedly wonderful. It cleans readily. Barely a swipe with silver creme and it shines. I won this pan at a local auction house over 15 years ago. I think it is very beautiful but could never bring myself to such luxury as cooking with it: So, it is in the state in which I purchased it. This is a nice old silver-plate oval covered serving dish by the Friedman Silver Co. of Brooklyn. NY(Purchased by Gorham in 1960) Measuring 12" by 9-3/8" and approx. 2-3/4" high with the cover, it has a wonderfully detailed grape pattern around the edge and on the handles. The plating is not perfect, but for it's age, it's very presentable and useable. Please check the photos for detail. Each side, top& bottom has a few bits of plate damage. The most notable is inside the cover. If you can forgive that, this could be a great and impressive serving piece. Estimated package weight is 3 pounds. VICTORIAN C1880'S AESTHETIC WILCOX SILVER PLATE CO FLORAL CARD RECEIVER Search Up for auction is a Victorian card receiver by Wilcox Silver Plate Company from the 1880's standing 5.5 inches tall and 7.25 inches wide across the rim. I was unable to take a picture of the mark as it is very small. The face of the receiver is divided into 4 sections. Two of which are plain and the other two are floral with scalloped rim and a monogram on the very center which looks like a D. The silver plate is shiny as shown and no dents. There is a circular brace which holds the legs sturdy and connects the top of the plate to the base. The top of the circle features a grassy or rocky appearance. I don't believe there was ever anything on the area except what is there now but please look at the last picture and expand it to be sure. This auction is for a lovely silver metal bread plate. It is engraved on the bottom: Trade Mark 1883 FB Rogers Silver Co. 529. I am no expert. But I believe this is what they call'coin silver' which is 529 silver parts per 1000. Sterling is 925 or above per 1000) This measures just over 13 1/2" long, and is 6" wide. ANTIQUE BARBOUR BROS CO REPOUSSE SILVER ON COPPER PLATE 1892-1898 This plate has a lot of patina on it from age and is still in good condition. It was made by Barbour Bros Co from Hartford. CT around 1892-1898. It is silver plated over copper that has been hammered(repousse) decorated. The silver has worn away exposing the copper color from underneath. Along the inside edge of the plate is a man playing a flute and a woman holding her child. The maker is stamped on the back along with numbers 3684 along the edge. Appears to be from Derby Silver Company, this plate has many scenes: Woman and child in Dutch costume standing on the dock looking toward person in a boat at a distance. Entire surface is detailed. This plate is silver but unknown what the rest of it is, if it is all silver or silver plated? From my research(and only other one I found on line) appears this was made by Derby Silver Company. On the back of the plate, very hard to see but it does have a marking that says(see photo) D S Co 01664 So this appears to stand for Derby Silver Company and may be from the 19 th century? The company soon outgrew its quarters and constructed a larger building, which still stands on Bridge Street, Shelton, in 1877 near the Housatonic River, overlooking Derby. A number of additions were added in subsequent years. The original Canal Street building was razed when the railroad was built through Shelton in 1888. The company made toilet articles. Mirrors, combs, clocks, brushes, table and flatware, tea sets, children's cups, loving cups(trophies) candlesticks, fruit baskets, dishes, basically anything which was plated by or made of silver. Special orders were constantly commissioned as well. The factory manufactured items for the Sperry and Hutchins trading stamp stores. The Company was noted for its large line of silver plated toilet ware and an economical line of plated hollowware sold under the popular trademark of the Victor Silver Plate Company. Showrooms were established in New York City. Chicago, and San Francisco. A considerable amount of silver was shipped to South America. The logo at the time featured an anchor. Antique Meridian Brita Co AL. Silver Plate Engraved Laura Butter Pick Beaded
This is a butter pick that was made in silver plate by the name of Beaded. Almost all of the companies made this pattern in the latter part of the 1800's and into the early part of the 1900's. This is engraved with the name Laura on it. Still who could not be thrilled to have a butter pick with their name on it. It is 5 1/8 inches long with the handle being 3 1/4 inches long.
