She had some beautiful pieces. all lovingly displayed and kept in near perfect, gleaming, condition. To our chagrin(hers and mine) her two children have clearly announced that they have absolutely no interest in her beautiful things. but softly suggested that she sell them and enjoy the proceeds. As her son told me. I can't love a dollar, like I love my mother. Hmmm. guess there is something to be said for the'younger' generation, after all. Offered at auction is an silverplate trivet made by Reed and Barton. The measure ments are as follows: The trivet is 8 7/8 inches wide and 1/2 an inch tall. Since this is not sterling. Being offered here is a used vintage covered silver plate tureen marked“Mf’d& Plated by Reed& Barton” Not sure of the numbers. the first number looks like 2.000 and the one below it is 1? can not read the second digit) Unfortunately we were not able to identify the date for the mark. Please view pictures for details. Measuring from the outside of one handle to the other is approximately 12 ¼” The outside diameter of the tureen is about 9” and the rim is about 7 ¾” It is approximately 5 ¾” deep. Measuring to the top of the finial on the lid this serving accessory stands 10 ¼” tall. There are some surface scratches on the outside and a 3/16” long dent near the top rim. The inside shows some utensil wear and pinpoint marks use. The legs depict a stag theme which may be a clue as to what the tureen was intended to ... morecontain. The fanciful legs are remarkable. Trademarks: Candlestick date mark(for the year 1955) Reed& Barton; 1204(pattern number) C encircling an A mark(used from 1945 onward in conjunction with a date mark to indicate a silverplated Copper alloy base metal) Measurements: 10" wide; 2-1/4" tall. 2 Vintage Reed and Barton Silverplate Chargers Plates
Two nice silver plate chargers or plates. One is marked on the underside Reed& Barton 1706 and still has a Reed& Barton sticker also. This one has a wonderful pattern of baskets of flowers.The other is marked Reed& Barton 1203 and has a beautiful rim design. I cleaned them lightly to check their condition however there is some light tarnish remaining. I do not see any exposed metal but there are scratches and normal wear to the centers of the plate area. The flower basket one measures to be about 11" in diameter. The other is about 10 1/2" in diameter. Shipping can be combined to save mailing cost if more than one item is purchased in the same week. The lid or cover has lovely shaped silver plate handles with a slightly scalloped edge all the way around. There are very ornate fancy initials engraved on the top of the lid. The bowl also has the scalloped detail around the edges and is hallmarked on the bottom"REED& BARTON 5001 MAYFLOWER" and the letter"A" within a circle. Unusual limited edition Damascene handcrafted Hanukkah plate made by Reed& Barton. Design by famous American artist Irving Amen(1918-2011) Size: 11" diameter.Weight 15.3oz. This plate is number 256 of 500. VG condition. Irving Amen(1918– 2011) was a painter, print maker and sculptor. Irving Amen is often referenced as one of the most important print makers in the United States. Born in New York City in 1918, he began drawing at the age of four. A scholarship to the Pratt Institute was awarded to him when he was fourteen years old. With Michelangelo as his idol, he spent seven years in life classes perfecting his drawing. From 1942 to 1945 he served with the Armed Forces. He headed a mural project and executed murals in the United States and Belgium. His first exhibition in woodcut was held at the New School for Social Research and ... morehis second at the Smithsonian Institute in 1949 and also exhibited at the Artists House in Jerusalem, the Library of Congress, and the National Academy of Design. The card receiver stands of 3 decorative feet designed to represent flowers and feathers. The tray of the receiver is held by 3 arms inserted into the base. The area holding the arms in place may have been repaired at one tie but ore likely that is the way they were attached. Chains hung from the ... morearms at one time but they are no longer there. No monograms or dents. There is staining of the top of the tray as if rubber bands one were left on the tray. It stands about 5 7/8 inches tall and 6 2/4 inches wide measuring across the top. It is owned by"THE LAKEWOOD HISTORIC SOCIETY" Please read all below to get a sense of these RARE, HISTORIC, MUSEUM QUALITY STERLING PLATES. Second Home Owner: Katie Faerber sold the house on April 18, 1916 to Mrs. Agnes Doyle Morse for $49,500. Mrs. Morse watched the place go up, board by board, said Mrs. Faerber. She told a near-by realtor that if it was ever sold, she wanted to hear about it first. Agnes Doyle ... morehad gone to work as a bookkeeper at 16, later becoming the secretary of George W. Morse, president of the Parish and Bingham Co. Located at 10615 Madison Avenue, the firm made steel stampings, specializing in frames for bicycles and automobiles. He died in 1910, eight months after their marriage, about the time the house was being built. The stock of the company was left to her in his will, until she remarried. The 1918 City Directory listed Mrs. Morse as the secretary/treasurer/general manager of the Cleveland operation of Parish& Bingham. A“precise business woman, she helped the company prosper and expand. In 1923, Parish& Bingham merged with two other firms to create Midland Steel Products Company, of which she became president and general manager. Mrs. Morse was also a major owner of land north of Lake Avenue, west of Nicholson. Mrs. Morse almost immediately began to make changes to the property. In September. 1916 she purchased an 80-foot wide strip of land immediately west of the existing property for $5,650.
