HISTORICAL REFERENCE OF THIS ITEM{this platter was made by a process no longer used, called Copper Deposit. An impression of the design was made in red wax, then this wax form was hung in a plating tank and plated with copper until the desired thickness had been obtained. This is a Vintage S. Kirk& Son Sterling Silver Bread Plate in the"Repousse" pattern. I recently acquired this at a local estate auction. It is clearly marked Sterling and has the S Kirk& Son company name as well as the 127 Piece Type Number on the bottom. It is in very good condition with no dents or dings. Only minor surface marks from use and no monogram or engraving(or removal. The pattern is crisp, clear and strong. It measures 6 1/4 inches in diameter. Here we have a work of art. This large 19 inch repousse wall plaque or charger is simply amazing. I believe it to be Victorian and most likely a sand cast piece. It is silver plated over what I think is copper or bronze due to the copper color coming through. It is in 3-D motif and profusely covered in Mermaid Baby's. Nudes, Dolphins, and other art works. There is four different main works or art that go all the way around plaque. I canot find a signature or marking. There is not a hook on back at present time. A beautiful 10inch plate by S Kirk and Son with a mark of sterling and the pattern number 727. It weighs approximately 394.3 g. There is an inscription on the bottom of the piece(see picture) which obviously can't be seen while using or displaying the piece. There are some scratches that go along with the age of the plate and it needs a good cleaning and polishing which I will leave up to the buyer. ANTIQUE BARBOUR BROS CO REPOUSSE SILVER ON COPPER PLATE 1892-1898 This plate has a lot of patina on it from age and is still in good condition. It was made by Barbour Bros Co from Hartford. CT around 1892-1898. It is silver plated over copper that has been hammered(repousse) decorated. The silver has worn away exposing the copper color from underneath. Along the inside edge of the plate is a man playing a flute and a woman holding her child. The maker is stamped on the back along with numbers 3684 along the edge. This is a really nice silver plate serving dish. It is in very good condition with no dents. It does show some wear in the center from cleaning and usage. I think cleaning and a good polishing will fix this. I have used this to serve breads and rolls for the Holiday's! It measures 13" L x 7 1/4" W.
