Winning bidder will be getting a beautiful and rare vintage print of a Map of the World as it was thought to be in 1590 by Abraham Ortelius. Released by Penn Prints, NY with dimensions 20" x 24" This print is very neat because it shows just how different people saw the world only a few hundred years ago. It is also very beautifully colored, the pictures do not do it justice! This print is in great shape considering its probable age and is on heavy duty paper. There is one corner that had a bug get at it but is very minor. There is also another end which is a little warn, and some minor wrinkling(all of this is shown in the pictures) Any and all flaws in this piece are contained within the edges and could easily be covered by a frame and would look great in any office, den, or library! Up for auction is an old antique map of the Eastern Hemisphere showing Asia. Europe, Africa, and Australia. Below the map it says, Published by Samuel Walker, Boston. I am not exactly sure what year this map was printed, but I believe this map is from the mid 1800's. The overall condition is fair with good color, but there are some yellowish brown spots that you can see in the pictures. The spots are probably from age, but perhaps it took on some moisture at some point over the years. The paper though is great with a nice cream color and no tears, creases, or other defects to mention. The size of the entire paper is 10.5" x 8.5" and the diameter of the map is 7.25" This map is guaranteed to be an original and not a reproduction. He was a mathematician. Astronomer, geographer, astrologer, and poet(of a single epigram in the Greek Anthology) He lived in Egypt under Roman rule, and is believed to have been born in the town of Ptolemais Hermiou in the Thebaid.
