Excellent for display or historical reference! The George F. Cram Company is still one of the nation's leading publishers and manufacturers of maps. Atlases and globes. The Company was started in 1867, and began making globes for homes and schools in the early 1930s. These were made for both the home and school markets and came in a range of sizes from 8" to 16" in diameter. The product line included"Cram's Universal Terrestrial Globes" featuring a choice of sizes and styles of mountings. This globe is one of that popular line. At age 79 in 1921. Cram sold his company to one of his largest customers, E.A. Peterson. Peterson merged it with his own business, the National Map Company, and moved the business to Indianapolis, Indiana. A Golden Illuminated Glass World C1948 by the George F. Cram Co. A fabulous golden colored glass globe with Arts& Crafts design influence. Illumination of glass worlds was a artistic process beginning with a hand blown glass orb and application of each individual map gore by hand. The result. A magnificent, warm glow that adds ambiance to any room! The George F. Cram Co. experimented with many designs and colors creating the Silver, Red, Black and Golden colored oceans mounted on a myriad of innovative bases. The more simplistic nature of this laquered wood mount compliments the golden orb. Created at the close of WW2 the globe displays the newly minted state of Israel while still portraying Baluchistan as it was before becoming Pakistan in 1947, both are noted in red. With the end of WW2 many of the borders were immediately reinstated ... moreand a rise of nationalism(one people, one state) created new states. This particular model details trade routes denoted in a clear, unusually vibrant red. These routes would play an important role in the resurgence of globalization that was hindered during the war by German U-boats, mining, and submarine attacks. 12" CRAMS Universal Terrestrial Globe late 1930s DECO full meridian
This late 1930's CRAM'S Universal Terrestrial GLOBE is a great find& is in great condition. The globe itself is a 12" size. The overall height. With base& meridian, is 17" it is approximately 13.5" at its' widest; the base diameter is 8" The look is so right: the original true blue has aged to more of an aqua blue(just what collectors are looking for) it has an impressive. Heavy, cast iron full meridian, finished to look like brass; it's bronze-look metal base has an art deco stepped design. Not only is the look there. But the condition is as well(see my many pics) The globe is sturdy& tight; there's no separation at the equator as is found on many vintage globes; very little discoloration(at a few of the seam lines only) or missing pieces of the paper surface(here& there very inconsequential ... morebits have scuffed off) The cast iron meridian& metal base surfaces are in excellent condition- there's even gold striping on the"bronze" base. All in all, a very well-constructed vintage globe, meant to last. By itself the globe weighs a hefty 4 lbs. Carefully packed for shipping it will weigh 6 3/4 lbs. Vintage 10 1/2" CRAMS Universal Terrestrial Globe - 1940's
Vintage CRAMS 10 1/2" Universal Terrestrial Globe You are bidding on a used globe from the 1940's. This globe was made in the United States in Indianapolis. Indiana. This globe has a metal stand however the globe itself is not metal. I have tried to track down the age of the globe and I can follow it back to 1949. It could go back as far as 1945. Some of the neat features on it are the water currents and the air traffic routes along with travel miles. Also Germany is listed as one country as is Indochina[ Vietnam] One slight issue and that is a small section of the equator is missing[ see photos] Other than that for its age I don't think it is in too bad of shape. This is a rare vintage Crams 16" project world globe. I did some reaserch and can't find another one like it. But I am not a globe expert. That being said, due to condition of globe this would probably be more of a decor item than a globe collector item. I have included 12 pics so that you can see what the condition is. It did not have a base when I found it in a barn, literally, so I improvised and used a antique Christmas tree stand. The pole I believe is original, but was all rusty, so I painted the pole and stand a vintage enamel color. The globe I cleaned and coated with a satin clear finish to help protect rest of it from pealing. The Globe stands approx 4 feet tall and has the ability to extend another 2-3 feet. This is a huge 16" diameter Crams Imperial World Globe. It was originally mounted on a wooden base that was damaged. So I securely mounted it to this beautiful brass and marble base from a vintage lamp. It is a very heavy base and it`s weight makes it almost impossible to overturn. It`s overall height is 26 1/2" and the base is 7" square. Due to the size and weight of this item I will only ship UPS. For some reason USPS shipping is almost double the rates of UPS. 1930's Crams 12 Inch Universal Terrestrial Globe on 3 leg wood stand
This is a 12 inch Cram's Universal Terrestrial Globe attached to a 3 legged wood stand. It has a complete metal Meridan ring around it.There is a metal holder of the Meridan and the semi circle metal holder is attached to the wood stand by a screw. Sitting on the wood stand. The 2 pieces together measure 35 inches in height. The globe is pre World War II as it shows the world as it stood in 1930's. The globe has some splitting at the Equator seam and some of the other seams have some minor wear. It still holds together nicely and turns easily. The wood stand is 20 inches and has 3 legs. The wood stand is solid and has some light wear to the wood. Still is a nice display globe. Email any questions.
