Drawn from the latest Discoveries, Extremely similar in the territories exhibited on the of ... morethe Herman Moll Maps of South America(South Sea Company) of 1720 and the John Senex Maps of 1700-1710. This map is believed to be from the 1710-1730 time period based on the territories shown. By the 1740's most maps have Brazil expanded and Amazonum shown as separated from Paraguay. This is hand colored and hand outlined. No date or published shown though. Likely removed from a map book[see bottom edge] rag paper in wonderful over-all condition with a light old horizontal fold line near the center and a diagonal one at the bottom right- as seen. Terra Megellanica is outlined and colored at the bottom but not named, Patagonia is named. Top left has Terra Firma with some provincial areas also named within that general division, Dutch Guayana is colored, outlined and named is are Chili, Brasil[with a smaller area outlined than later maps] and Peru. Paraguay is named but not totally outlined. I have spent a lot of time researching this map. If anyone can tell me more I certainly will revise the listing. It is from Pierre Du Val D'Abbeville's La Geographie Universelle published in Paris. 1682. Du Val sometimes referred to as Duval(1618-1683) was the son-in-law of Nicolaes Sanson, who established the French school of cartography, with whom Du Val was an important contributor to the Sanson family business engraving Sanson's maps and later designing his own maps as printed in this atlas. In 1650 he earned the title of Royal Geographer of the King of France which he held until his death in 1683. His miniature maps are highly sought after and generally listed as scarce or rare. Size/ Format In millimetres(and inches) Sheet: 400 x 300(16" x 12" The Margins on all four sides are 18 mm(0¾" These maps were all'tipped in' to the atlas. Meaning that they could be removed as a single intact sheet. The maps have a single fold in the center. The maps are high quality lithographs with tasteful and appealing colors. The maps are printed on one side only. Condition These maps are very good condition. The maps themselves are clean and bright. There are a few marks in the margins of a few of the maps. This will be evident in the scanned images. Which are high quality and unedited. The maps are untrimmed and are suitable for framing. Remarks The quality of these maps surpasses that of most. This is a fine 1804 Map of South America by the famous mapmaker Aaron Arrowsmith. Aaron Arrowsmith lived between(1750–1823) was an English mapmaker. Engraver and publisher and founding member of the Arrowsmith family of geographers. He became Hydrographer to the Prince of Wales ca. 1810 and subsequently to the King in 1820. In January 1790 he made himself famous by his large chart of the world on Mercator projection. Four years later he published another large map of the world on the globular projection, with a companion volume of explanation. This is a large 1906 map of South America. It measures 27 X 18 1/2 inches. It is quite detailed. Showing all rail traffic, cities and points of interest as existed in 1906. This map is genuine, not a copy or reprint. Map is in very nice overall condition. Would look fantastic properly matted and framed under glass. Map is from a Cram's Railway Atlas which is very expensive when found. Six dollars postage and packing. Which includes a cut PVC tube in which map will be sent rolled in kraft paper and protected. Size/ Format In millimetres(and inches) Sheet: 364 x 262(14¼" X 10 ¼" Margins range from 14mm- 26mm(½" 1" The maps are all printed on one integral sheet with a fold in the center. This fold becomes nearly invisible when the map is laid flat. If the map is framed. The fold becomes completely invisible unless inspected very closely. Condition The maps are in very good condition. The colors are bright and there is almost no age-toning. There is an occasional spot or unobtrusive mark in the ... moremargins of a few of the maps. The scanned images are un-edited(except for size) and are of the actual map you will receive. I've noticed that some of the scans look a little blurry or grainy. This is caused by clumsy scanner settings. The maps are very clear with crisp text.
