This was part of Globe-Wernicke when they took over Weis bookcase company in 1964 then closed it in 1969-70 you got them for Larkin Soap Remittances coupons or Green Stamp books after 1950 when S&H got last lot from Weis.This ones made out of Imbuya wood(Embuya) a exotic Black Walnut from South America Very big about-6 wide 16 1/4 long unopenned 27 openned 6 tall openned 2 closed. Very Heavy over 3-5 1/2 pounds.This ones got it's label. This Macbeth Monax school house style globe is presented for auction today. It is inscribed with the etched mark that reads as follows: U.S.A. Pat. Jan. 6. 1920 Macbeth Monax Made in U.S.A. This Lime Green and White globe is 7& 1/2 inches in depth. 9 inches in diameter at the ceiling and 7 inches at the bottom of the globe. The opening is 3&1/2 inches in the inner ring and the top most opening is 3& 3/4 inches. The side coloration is pinstriped with a blue stripe at the top and black pinstripe at the bottom of the side design. Levenger Replogle Art Deco Globe 1990's 60 Year Anniversary Black 12" Starlight
I bought this new in the 90's from the Ham/Schlem catalog. Can't remember what it cost but nothing is cheap out of that catalog. The Starlight black globes are common enough. But not with this very very cool Art Deco base. It commemorates 60 years of Art Deco and I've not seen another come up for auction. I can't find the original box. But it will be packaged well, no peanuts, and the base is very heavy. There is a set screw to mount the globe to the base. It has not been'out' on display very much over the years and no kids spinning/scratching it. It's basically like new! It's always been out of the sun so no fading. These gorgeous candle holders with globes are in good condition for their age. There is quite abit of wear to the gold trim. 1 globe has a tiny nick at the rim. There is a line in the glass of one base, looks like a straw mark, in the photo it looks like a crack, but is definitely not. There is foot wear where they rest of the table on the bottom of the feet. The problems are really not readily noticeable, just depends on their angle in the light, they are beautiful. This 1930's airplane base is not chromed but of a pot metal with a satin finish. Note the elongated fixed finials that are specific to this particular globe and the more stubby shaped plane that represents the Art Deco style of the thirties.
