I do not know the exact date it framed. This is a vintage frame holding a antique style map from the 70's and it will not be perfect. For your bidding consideration is this rare and wonderful antique 125 year old puzzle map called Dissected Map of the United States and published by McLoughlin Brothers Publishing in 1887. This is an early chromolithographed and jigsaw puzzle in the original box. The box cover illustration features a fantastic picture of Lady Liberty and the American flag. The box top is missing one edge but it still displays beautifully. The map features both"Indian Territory" now the state of Oklahoma) and Lower California which is now the Mexican Yucatan peninsula. The puzzle 100% complete with all 50 of the puzzle pieces as well as the matching paper key map dated 1887. Puzzle measures 18 inches by 12 inches when put together. Made approximately 160 years ago. Printed in mid-19th century, on quality paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. Nicely detailed. With original hand color. It is from the 1890 edition of Stieler's Hand Atlas. Published in Gotha by Justus Perthes. The map is by the great German cartographer Augustus Petermann(1822-1878) Best know for Petermann’s geographische Mitteilungen. The leading geographical journal of the day supplying the world with maps and information on newly explored regions around the world including the Arctic and Africa. His maps were certainly among the most accurate and detailed of the period and led the way to a new school of cartography often referred to as the"Gotha School. ... moreHis maps continued to be used and revised for years after his death in 1878 and his Mitteilungen continued until 2004. After 1865. Petermann was given the responsibility of the cartography for the Stieler Atlas and in coordination with other cartographers in the firm, he guided the production of the atlas until his death overseeing the designs and revisions based on recent discoveries. The publisher and date are shown on the map in the bottom margin and the name of the atlas is in the upper right corner and Petermann's name in the upper left corner. The map is not mounted nor matted, being sold as a single sheet with a centerfold as seen in the first pic. Size: The map image measures approximately 13 by 16 inches on a 15 by 18 1/2" page as seen in the pic with a wide margin all around for framing as seen in the main pic. Vintage Cleartype United States Railroad Map #717 - Wall Map - Nice Condition !
This is a vintage"Cleartype Railroad Map of the United States. This is a wall map measuring approximately 44" x 64" I have been unable to locate a year of the map on the map itself. Map no. 717" is printed on the front. The map lists the railroads in the index. Many of which no longer exist. I am most familiar with Northeast railroads and it lists railroads that were defunct long ago(i.e. New York Central, Pennsylvania, Lehigh Valley, CNJ, New York, New Haven& Hartford- just to name a few) Overall the map is in nice condition, but it does show some signs of aging. There is some yellowing along the edges and back. The edges are a little rough and wrinkled in areas, but I didn't notice any significant rips or tears. There is also what appears to be a pencil mark on the back of the map. This map would make a terrific ... moreaddition to any map collector's collection or for display in a"Train Room. The name of the atlas is in the upper right corner and the publisher's name appears in the bottom center margin. The map is not mounted nor matted, being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. These are the smaller maps from the school atlas, we also have some of the larger Stieler maps from the Hand Atlas in other listings. NYSTROM pull down student map, UNITED STATES, WORLD, TEXAS, three layer, INS991
This is a three-layer map set produced by Nystrom. The three layers include a map of Texas(map number INS42) A map of the World(map number INS99) and a map of the United States(map number INS1) The map of Texas is on top, followed by the World map, and then the U.S. map. The map number for the set is INS991. I'm not sure of the exact copyright. But I believe it is around 1990. This map measures 53 inches high by 65 inches wide. It comes mounted on a spring roller. With a wood dowel at the end. This map shows a little bit of wear from general classroom use. But overall it is in great condition. There are some rips on the outside of the map, but these do not go all the way through the map. They only appear when the map is rolled up and are not noticeable when the map is pulled down. This is a complete. Early 20th century two-sided dissected wooden puzzle map of the United States and territories, made by Milton Bradley Co. The 63 piece, 48-state map includes insets of Alaska, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the Philippines. It is brightly colored and shows major railroads, rivers, state capitals and major cities. When this map was made circa 1905 the capital of Oklahoma was Guthrie, later moved to Oklahoma City(1910) In Idaho, Boise is Boise City. The map measures 20" wide by 14 1/4" long. On the other side of the puzzle is a chart of the flags of the world with Uncle Sam carrying the map. As you can see, all of the pieces are there. On two of the puzzle pieces the small pointed tip is missing. We do not have the original box.
