The piece is entirely original and has a natural aged patina. There are a few small, natural age cracks in the globe occuring near the Equator as can be seen in the photos. Everything is as it should be. Very good condition for such and old Cram globe.

12" CRAMS Universal Terrestrial Globe late 1930s DECO full meridian
This late 1930's CRAM'S Universal Terrestrial GLOBE is a great find& is in great condition. The globe itself is a 12" size. The overall height. With base& meridian, is 17" it is approximately 13.5" at its' widest; the base diameter is 8" The look is so right: the original true blue has aged to more of an aqua blue(just what collectors are looking for) it has an impressive. Heavy, cast iron full meridian, finished to look like brass; it's bronze-look metal base has an art deco stepped design. Not only is the look there. But the condition is as well(see my many pics) The globe is sturdy& tight; there's no separation at the equator as is found on many vintage globes; very little discoloration(at a few of the seam lines only) or missing pieces of the paper surface(here& there very inconsequential ... morebits have scuffed off) The cast iron meridian& metal base surfaces are in excellent condition- there's even gold striping on the"bronze" base. Nice vintage 9" Terrestrial World Globe manufactured by George F. Cram Co. Indianapolis Indiana. I am not sure of the actual age of the globe since I have been unable to find a date. The base and degree ring is made of metal. Russia is listed as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and Iran is listed as Persia. The United States is listed as the Tribes of the North American Continent(just kidding) It is not that old. Noted at the top are the dates where explorers reached the North Pole: Peary-1909-Sledge. Byrd-1926-Airplane, and Amundson-1926-Dirigible. The globe contains an Analemma showing the Sun's Declination for everyday in the year and Ocean Currents are well noted. The globe shows current day Somalia as being called Italian Somaliland. It ceased being called that in 1936. The globe itself is a dense fiberboard and the base is metal. Marker: 1922- Russia changes to Soviet Union( Still Russia)1924- Christiana, Norway renamed Oslo( Still Christiana) While the condition is not pristine it has been restored to top condition with this grade: fair condition with some touch up the the Atlantic. A small crack in France,all of the country are easy to read. The globe turn freely. The overall colors are fading in some part with oxidation.The old yellow varnish has been removed to restore most of the original color. Offered is this rare vintage 12" world globe. Rand McNally's"Terrestrial Art Globe" made in 1940. Reflecting the world as it was during the early stages of World War II. It shows a large Germany. With no Austria or Czechoslovakia; Italian East Africa. With no Ethiopia; the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo; Korea labeled as" Chosen" and occupied by Japan and an independent Tibet. Perhaps the strangest of all. The nation of"Tannu Tuva" is depicted(between Mongolia and the USSR) Even though it was not recognized as independent by anyone other than Mongolia and the USSR! Unfortunately this wonderful piece of history has had a hard life. There are numerous problems. 1) It wobbles on its axis due to a hole at the South Pole. 2) It has separated slightly at the equator and to a lesser amount at some of the ... morevertical sections. 3) There was once a piece of adhesive tape across eastern Canada. 4) There is a shallow gouge north of Fiji. 5) The metal base has some corrosion. 6) There are numerous very small scuff marks on the surface. 7) The area around the North Pole has yellowed with age more than the rest. I know that collectively that's a lot of damage. Still. This is a very interesting piece of history and not easy to find! I found one Internet sale of an identical globe with a fancier base for $500. There's pins and string stuck in/on the globe from the previous owner. Possibly tracking locations of their own global travels or a loved one's or something else all together. The globe underneath the string has a brighter surface so this path was tracked quite a while ago. Gives the whole item an unique ... morelook. Globe is grungier at the top than it is at the bottom. The equator is beginning to detach. There's a couple areas of chips in the paper. There's LOTS of areas with surface scratches and other wear and a few empty pinholes. All the original. Vintage wear and tear is there. This little globe was used quite a bit. I belie ve the Geo. F. Cram Company discontinued making globes just earlier this year. This globe has a metal stand however the globe itself is not metal. I have tried to track down the age of the globe and I can follow it back to 1949. It could go back as far as 1945. Some of the neat features on it are the water currents and the air traffic routes along with travel miles. PAper on globe is in very good condition for age- see photos. I saw no scrapes in paper and only a couple little light colored spots- a couple are almost into paper. Weight is about 7 pounds with no packing. Selling"as found" with no attempt to clean or restore. I use EMI for overseas as some countries have no other options. The globe has aqua colored water and various colored lan d masses. The globe spins 360 degrees and has a ruler around the metal frame. In the I ndian Ocean area the globe is marked with"12 Inch Globe Terrestrial Globe. Beckley-Cardy Co. Wholesale School Supplies Chicago. U.S.A. Underneath the label is a s cale. I n the middle of th e Pacific Ocean ther e is an Equation of T ime chart and a mile chart. The ru ler and globe are tightly secured to each other. The globe is made of steel or glass with a paper overlay. No stand is included. T he globe dates to the 1920s-early 30s based on the fact that Afghanistan is listed on the globe and Iraq is not. Afgha ... morenistan claimed its independence in late 1919 and Iraq gained independence in 193 2. A great addition to your classroom or a nice pie ce to add to your map collection! There is some yellowi ng o f the globe from a ge. There is some white paint splatter on South America and there is some staining present throu ghout the globe. Circa e1900's RAND McNALLY& COMPANY GLOBE with STAND- 12" TERRESTRIAL SPHERE GLOBE on BRONZED CAST IRON BASE with TALON HOLDING BALL FEET- JUST AT ABOUT 22" HIGH and 13 1/2" WIDE(Frame to Frame) HOLDING A 12" GLOBE. THE IMPORTANT PARTS(Frame and Globe) ARE REALLY NICE and NOTE THE MONO(RMC) on FRONT CENTER MIDDLE AND HOW ORNATE THE FRAME IS WITH ORIGINAL FINISH AND PATINA to the faux BRONZE OVER HEAVY CAST IRON. Please note there is one small disoloration in the lower Pacific Ocean section of this piece. Who knows, perhaps a foreteller of the huge garbage mass currently floating in the Pacific. I believe this globe to have been manufactured c. 1930. After 1928 and before 1935. The following points seem to support this, and an expert can perhaps make a more definitive determination: Persia. A geographer and cartographer, was a professor at the University of Chicago department of Geography in 1903 and later worked with Rand McNally to create maps and atlases and, around 1924, produced several models of globes. The Goode globes did not see mass production numbers as did the more common Rand McNally ones, and, consequently, they are not seen as frequently. Goode was born in 1862 and died in 1932. Nice Vintage Mid to Late 1980's George F. Cram Co. Cram's Physical Political 12" Diameter Terrestrial Metal World Globe" On Metal Stand Made by George F. Cram ~ Leading Globe and Map Maker Since 1867 this great globe will surely become more of a rarity. And more collectible with time, due to the fact at the beginning of 2012, the George F. Cram company's operations were shut down& all products have been discontinued at this time. I have dated this globe to have been made somewhere between 1984-1988. As Upper Volta has changed to Burkino Faso(1984) but Burma has not changed to Myanmar(1989) The globe is free floating and comes off the stand so that you may view it from any angle you wish. It is very cool in that the metal stand has a mileage scale where you can figure your estimated traveling time on an propeller ... moredriven airliner cruising at 300 MPH and a jet airliner cruising at 600 MPH. This globe is in fair to good vintage condition overall. But does show a few stains, and minor wear spots, or surface imperfections, as to be expected from an older globe. Please look at my pictures to judge for yourself prior to purchase. The metal stand is in great condition, with no signs of rust, and just a couple of slight stains/wear on the chart showing the airliner travel times. Measurements are as follows: Globe is 12" in Diameter. Up for auction is a wonderful big 16" Rand McNally Terrestrial Art Globe. I've dated to some where around the early 1940s I found this wonderful globe without a stand so needs to find a home were someone could provide it with a nice stand. It's in pretty nice overall condition. I took pics of most of all the flaws. One small dent toward the bottom of South America. There is also a spot toward the bottom of Alaska were there are some very small holes punched in to the globe. Someone covered this with a piece of tape. There is also some darkening in areas of the globe. See pics for overall condition. Please ask me any questions before bidding.

No Reserve. Appraised by Murray Hudson today for $2000.00 in mint condition. Globe is in very very good condition. Two tiny parts of globe are scratched off. It is repairable and not that expensive. Also the wood base has a small crack which is also is minor and can be refinished by any carpenter. It is currently glued and in tact. Globe dates from 1950-58.
