Description This is an antique late 1800s to early 1900s terrestrial globe by W.A.K.Johnston of London. The globe measures 18 inches in diameter. Overall the holder is 25 inches in diameter and overall it is 33 inches in height. The globe does not have a copyright date so i tried to take some pics of Europe and Africa to give you a good idea of the countries that existed at the time. The globe has some condition issues with stains and a little flaking to the paper so im selling it in AS IS condition, as pictured. I really cannot ship this by ordinary shippers because of the size. Antique Rand McNally Six Inch Terrestrial Globe late 1800s cast Art Nouveau base
Antique very early Rand McNally Six Inch Terrestrial Globe. From the late 1800s. It has a beautiful Art Nouveau cast heavy metal base with a copper or bronze finish on it. Lots of patina on the base. It has an Analemma. The proportion and artistic quality of this globe is lovely. It is not too large, and has a lot of detail for its size. 12 paper gores. The logo says it is a six inch globe, but the actual measurement of the globe is about 5-1/4" in diameter. It is 11" high. I have taken several close up composite pictures of various areas of the globe for you to look at. Base in fine shape. Globe has some indentation around the seam of the orb underneath the paper gores. Darkening of the finish coat. Abrasions and scratches with some paper loss. Some dark marks and age related soil. Slight rub on turning for part of the rotation ... moreof the globe. It does not spin round and round like today's globes, it has a tight spin and works well.

This is an early globe by W. A.K. Johnston- Geographers. Engravers, Printers of Edinburgh. This globe dates to around the late 1800s to early 1900s period. It is a terrestrial globe of the earth. This is the large 18 inch diameter size. It has a very fancy art nouveau claw foot metal base. The globe itself does have some wear and tear, see pictures. It stands about 33 inches high and 23 inches wide. Local pickup is welcome but I can separate the globe and base and ship in two packages.

Though well cared for equator tape is starting to become unhinged and there are riffs in the terrain that might not normally be there. other than a lot of dust the globe is in good shape but not near mint.

A beautifully presented floor globe. Raised on an Art Deco walnut stand. A nearly identical globe is shown in Rand McNally catalog 337, dated 1937, called The Drake, the finest 18-inch globe then offered by Rand McNally. According to the catalog, the simplicity and freedom from unnecessary ornamentation to this model represents the best in modern furniture design. The stand has a Louis XVI“Gout-Grec” transitional influence in the form of the tapered leg but is decidedly Art Deco overall. The horizon band has a figured exotic wood frieze decorated with roundels above the legs. Rotating 360 degrees on a bulbous wooden meridian holder resting on a medial cross stretcher. The four tapered down-swept legs end in ebonized feet with cross-hatched decoration. Oceans are blue, now faded to green, geographic entities generally cream color, now beige. ... moreThe globe is interesting in a geo-political sense in reflecting a still pervasive European colonial dominance in many areas. We are able to offer this very nice, original Mid Century ~ 1953 VINTAGE CRAM'S 12" GLASS ILLUMINATED TERRISTRIAL WORLD GLOBE W/ HAMMONDS ATLAS ~ The globe is in all original condition which is pretty nice. There is a little expected wear here and there and some fairly minor expected damage to the paper here and there. All in all, it is in much nicer condition than we usually find these 60 year old globes in. It measures approximately 18 inches tall by 14 inches wide by about 11 inches deep. This make a nice addition to an office or den in your home. This is a Cram Butler De Luxe Terrestrial 16" floor globe. In the bottom is written that it was originally purchased in 1967 new in Cheyenne WY. The wood base is very solid wood. The dating of the policitcal name geography puts it most likely about 1939. Some key facts are that Ethiopia was invaded by Italy and is makrd. Italian East Africa. Germany invaded Austria and Czechoslovakia and show a sold Germany with those borders. The Phillipines is marked"US Control Until 1945" that was a predetermined date that had not come at the time of the printing of the globe. One could say this is pre-WWII, however, it is these changes that began WWII.

With this globe you could plan your steamship crossing of an ocean and then plan your railway trip on the other side– cool! It stands about 15” tall on a black Bakelite platform. It’s fun to see that in the 1930s. An early miniature globe for the desktop. Patented November 24, 1868. The base says Schedler's Terrestrial Globe and there's a First Prize Medal from the Paris Exposition 1867, Globe is 3 inches diameter and stands 4-1/2 inches tall on its stand. The post is a wooden stick match with the match head cut off. I had to use it because the original post is gone or inside. I can hear something rattling around inside. Globe surface is shiny enameled or laquered over a hard ball of unknown composition. Surface has only minor wear and no missing surface. Base looks like cardboard and there's some missing paper on the black paper over it. Looking with a magnifier I can see the countries are different than now with interior Africa having large areas with no name. It is well preserved for a 146 year old globe. A superb quality. Small, acid-etched crystal terrestrial globe 50mm diameter and complete with matching crystal stand. Originally issued by the Lisnave Shipyard in Portugal, the globe is separate from the stand but when placed on the top of the base can spin freely. The base is a cube of side 30mm and has the laser-etched logo of Lisnave within it. All in excellent, undamaged condition. Well packed Signed-For Second Class post(UK) will cost £4.90. The print is a copperplate engraving printed on laid paper in 1763. The sheet measures 9 X 5 inches and is in good condition aside from light bends& creases. Light stains on the bottom edge and soiling& foxing across the top edge. The image is titled"Fig.1. The Terrestrial Globe. Fig.2. The Celestial Globe. It is inscribed on the right edge"T. 7"D desktop World Terrestrial Globe George Cram 1930's "GILMORE" Oil Co. w/lion
An old globe for the desktop made by George F. Cram Co. Indianapolis. Ind. It is 7 inches diameter and has a brass tag on base that is debossed"A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE IN GILMORE" and a lion's head in red(hard to tell it is a lion head) Gilmore was a big west coast oil& gasoline company founded around 1903 when a farmer, A. F. Gilmore, drilling for water hit oil instead in the Los Angeles area. The Red Lion brand was introduced in 1933. Gilmore was taken over by Socony-Vacuum Oil Co. Mobil) and their 3500 gas stations phased out and became Mobil starting in 1942. This globe was severely gashed with white scrapes in the Northern Hemisphere(see last 2 photos) I touched up the gashes with water color and colored marking pens. Then I applied liquid furniture wax. Although it looks much better, the touch up is very noticeable(see ... morecloseup photos 8 thru 10) This could be corrected by an artist but would be costly. Note: Southern Hemisphere is untouched and had no gashes. The last date I can read is Perry flying over the South Pole 1929. And Africa still has French and Belgian colonies. Antique American terrestial 12" globe by Gilman Joslin. Boston. Dated this Globe at 1904 as Panama is shown independent(1903) but Sweden and Norway are shown without a dividing line(1905) Good condition with some cracks and losses- excellent patina. Cracks extend from South of India up into SE China. Then down into the Phillipines. There is an area of loss East of Borneo then a few cracks extending near the equator ending south of Sandwich Isles(Hawaii) Also a loss over Finland. Paper gores at South Pole are lifting at tips. Antique Terrestrial 12 in Globe G W Bacon Northwest Furniture Portland 1910
An original terrestrial Globe on Bronzed Iron stand about 1910 or earlier. The Globe made and printed by G W Bacon of London for the Northwest Furniture co of Portland Oregon. The diameter of the globe is 12 ins. Condition; there are several areas of wear. Indentations and marks that are pictured. The color has generally faded and darkened over the years. The iron holding ring looks to have an old repair where it has cracked. The central horizon band which was made of wood and had a printed paper ring of the months, etc is missing. This was commonly removed on these globes( better looking without) and the tell tale sign is the two holes for screws that remain on the holding ring. Please study the pictures well as they are the major part of the condition description. I will be happy to answer any questions.

Paper gores over plaster sphere, plated cast iron base, paper-clad wooden horizon ring, brass meridian. Overall approximate height 33 inches and approximate 23 inch diameter. Dated 1919-1924 because it is post Treaty of Versailles(1919) and includes Petrograd. Which was the city name in use from 1914 to 1924. Wooden horizon ring includes zodiac and ... morecalendar. Tripod base is claw feet with talons holding globe balls. Has raised ornate design including cartouche with manufacturer initials and small globes. Has brass hour circles at the north and south poles with a calibrated brass meridian. Oceans in aqua. Land masses in shades of dark yellow and pink, The paper has dark spots. As shown in photos, especially in northern hemisphere. The paper appears lacquered. So these spots may be removable. There are several areas where repairs were attempted due to dented plaster and missing paper. See Alaska and northeast US. There are a few small dents requiring repair and a large indentation at the South Pole. As photographed. The horizon ring has paper worn from the edge all the way around and a repair where the wood apparently split at one time. There are some small separations of sections of the horizon ring. Manufactures responded to market demands and terrestrial globes have dominated. Celestials were often still offered but just not purchased as often. The globe reads: Rand McNally terrestrial globe as seen in the photo’s. The base is cast iron and has three legs very ornate as you can see. the globe is made of what looks like plaster there is one small place underneath seen in the photo's. The graphic elements are very clearly rendered. In the best fashion of wax engraving. A horizon ring is still employed, with a metal stand that is unique and unusual, apparently of the"Aesthetic Revival" school of design that flourished at the end of the 19th century. Isothermal lines are shown for January and July, as are submarine telegraph cables. The gores show a water mark" Sons" with a"96" below, so this globe had been issued in 1896. This auction consists of a Hammonds 12 in. Terrestrial Globe.It dates to at least the 1930's I believe possibly earlier.It stands 15 in. tall globe diameter is 12 in.It does have condition problems as seen.Globe is possibly made of bakelite. I would estimate this globe to be from late 1930's to early 1940's. This globe Is very old and shows that wonderful patina. The band along the equator is showing age appropriate wear. c1890s 12" Franklin by H.B. Nims & Company Terrestrial Table Globe
This is an uncommon c1890s 12’ Franklin terrestrial table globe by H.B.Nims& Co. The overall condition is vintage good. With the expected wear for a 19 th century antique globe. Description& Condition: The Cartouche reads: The Franklin Terrestrial Globe 12 Inches In Diameter Containing All The Geographical Divisions& Political Boundaries to the present date Carefully Compiled From the best Authorities H.B.Nims& Company Try N.Y. Rae Smith Engraver N.Y. The 12” globe has a figure eight analemma. Printed hour circles at the North and South Poles, and a very detailed gore(e.g. cities, rivers, mountain ranges, cable lines, African tribes) It has a sculptural dowel style mount and a metal domed base. Note: unlike a manufacture like Joslin. The Franklin/ Nims globes are not as plentiful- and this globe, with this dowel style mount, ... morehas had a very low survival rate and is truly uncommon. This globe reflects the world as it was after the colonial division of Africa(1884 Berlin Conference) And before the upheaval due to WWI(1918) Empires that will not survive WWI still dominate Europe and the Middle East(e.g. Austrian-Hungarian, Ottoman) And empires large and small now dominate Africa too(e.g. Congo Free State, Belgium) This globe is a great read, and appeals to both our visual and National Geographic sides. The overall condition is vintage good. With the expected wear for a 19 th century globe. There is some yellowing of the shellac. There is a water stain around Antarctica. There are a few small splits to the gore seam radiating from the finial. And there is a very small. Slight impression under German East Africa. However, what is most important is that the gore is fully intact, and that there are no dents or large cracks. Best of all, unlike most globes this age the gore text is amazingly crisp and clear(wish my pics were better) Note: I examined the globe under a spot lamp– which is the only reason I noticed the impression– it looks great on display.
