Coronelli click image to enlarge click image to enlarge This is a rare opportunity to acquire an original antique Globe Gore of India and parts of the Middle East& Persia by Vincenzo Coronelli published in his 1696 edition of Isolario dell' Atlante Veneto. The copper-plates for these gores were originally engraved by Coronelli f or the construction of the large 42in(110cm) terrestrial globe. Coronelli published 2 different globe gore atlases. The 1693 edition of Libero dei Globi and the 1696 edition of Isolario dell' Atlante Veneto. The difference being the inclusion of Latin text to the latter publication. Background: In the early 1680’s Vincenzo Coronelli constructed two vast 15ft diameter terrestrial& celestial globes for Louis XIV of France. These were meticulously hand drawn& engraved. Such was the admiration of these Globes that in 1688 Coronelli began the engraving& publication of Globe Gores for the construction of two 110cm(42in) terrestrial& celestial globes. Coronellis claim to have produced the best globes of any age was exemplified by the high demand and purchase of the globes by various institutions& cities within Europe. Yet many scholars still did not have the opportunity to visit Paris. London, Rome or Venice to view them and so Coronelli devised his famous atlas Libero dei Globi the first atlas of globe gores ever produced. Well detailed map also has decent coloring. It sits on a wood turned ebonised pedestal stand with brass fittings. Published by J. Lebègue& Cie(1880–1910) of 30 rue de Lille. 30 Paris. Edmond Dubail(1851-1934) cartographer; A. Soldan engraver; Monrocq(Paris) printer. The globe is made up of a wooden core, plaster, cardboard and paper gores. There are a number of condition issues: a 3" depression dent off the Japan coast; various breaks to USA& Canada; breaks to Antarctica; a crack to Australia. Paper Globe on Wire Stand. C. 1885 to 1895 I probably bought this globe 40 or more years ago. I am not a globe collector and know nothing about them other than I a geography buff and it appealed to me. I can place the date roughly because Rhodesia is not listed and Congo Free State is. Since the Congo Free State was named in 1885 and Ndebele became Rhodesia in 1895. I place it sometime during that period. I can’t find any maker name or date. But that is not surprising from similar examples I have seen on line. It has surface dirt and a few places of paper loss and the wire frame is somewhat rusty. Cram 9" Terrestrial Globe from 1934 with Silver Oceans in remarkable condition
Here is the Cram 9" Terrestrial Globe from 1934 in remarkably fine condition. A little research has indicated that this globe. With silver oceans and red descriptions for radio stations and steamship routes. Is quite rare and considered a prized collectible. My research shows that this globe is from 1934 as Japan has occupied Manchuria. Labeled here as"Manchuria or Manchukuo" Pakistan and Israel are far in the future, Nazi Germany has yet to annex Czechoslovakia and Austria, and many of the African countries still carry colonial names. Italian presence in Africa is limited to Italian Somaliland. Given the age of the globe. The surface has a few issues. The globe needs a good cleaning, something I won't attempt as I figure that there is a correct way to do this and I don't know much beyond whipping out the Comet cleanser. ... moreThere are a few small imperfections, I'll call them cuts in the surface, that run about 1/2" and seem more like a healed scar with no damage to the map details. The red identifications of shortwave radio stations and steamship lines have faded, though still visible on close inspection. There are no other issues with the surface. All paper gores are tight with no issues at the edges and all details of the globe surface and the mappings are sharp. The tape at the equator is complete. The full cast metal meridian is in good shape with just paint loss to the outside surface. The time dial is in place at the north pole and Antarctica has no wear at all. Something almost always present due to wear from the bottom spindle. The supporting black metal base is clean and solid with just a few bits of paint loss but no corrosion. The globe is 9" in diameter and with the black metal stand measures about 12" high. This globe in this condition comes along so rarely. It is being offered at a low starting bid and no reserve. This Vintage Globe does have a few condition issues which I will try to describe as well as including pictures. The print& color has worn off in various areas(please see pics) There is a very slight separation by Greenland(on the surface only- not deep) There are some very minor crinkles. No maker listed, Indian Territory in Easter Oklahoma, N&S Dakota are separate, Panama is independent(1903) and there is no Albert or Saskatchewan in Canada yet(1905) It also looks like Sweden and Norway are still one country. The 2 parted their union in 1905. No North pole or Antarctica shown. Some wear at poles, a bit of crushing damage at equator through South America and Africa, some soiling, darkened with age. The printed area was fourteen by seven inches and was designed to make the earliest surviving printed paper globe. Although the globe is copyrighted 1909 it shows the Russian city of Petrograd which became that in 1914 until 1924 when it became Leningrad. So this globe dates after 1914. I have shown 2 places where there is minor loss to the gore-one at the equator and the other at the very bottom. There appears to be some age related dullness although the reds are quite bright. Weber Costello& Coi. was a major maker of school globes. Using imported gores as sell as ones made in this country. Up for auction is a rare vintage original circa 1931- 1934 GEORGE F CRAM CO Indianapolis. Indiana 12" Terrestrial World Globe. It has a heavy metal base(scratched) as well as the complete ring around the outside, it loosens with a nut to swivel and it works perfectly. It would date from circa 1931 to 1934 indicated by the use of PERSIA which changed to Iran in 1935 and the use of ISTANBUL which prior to 1930 was called CONSTANTINOPLE. Manchuria is called both MANCHURIA OR MANCHOUKUO and Saudi Arabia is the KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA. Nice condition with a wonderful patina. Vintage Replica Antique 1507 TERRESTRIAL GLOBE Made in ITALY 1940-50 11"X11"
This is a Vintage Replica/ Reproduction of an Antique Terrestrial Globe. It measures approx. 11" high and 11" in diameter(including the stand) The last picture( 8) shows the leather label on the bottom of the stand. It reads" reproduction of terrestrial globe original made in 1507-ITALY" and underneath, printed MADE IN ITALY. I believe it was made sometime in the 1940's to 1950's because of the material the stand is made of, looks like wood but is actually an early plastic, bakelite era. The globe has sections applied to make up the illustrated surface of the globe similar in shape to sections of an orange. Condition is very good, vintage used, some of the afore mentioned sections are lifting up slightly at edges, could easily be glued down, but I leave that to the new owner. The Rand McNalley's New 3" Terrestrial Globe was introduced in 1891. We are estimating this planetarium was originally sold between 1891 and 1908. The earth globe is in good condition with some light wear- see photos. We believe it is missing a moon that would orbit earth. The base has a calendar/zodiac markings. But most is worn away. The spun brass sun orb has some wear marks- see photos. The metal base is copper colored- I don't believe it is copper. It has not been polished- as found. Small compass set into wood frame. The globe diameter is approximately 9 1/2" the globe with the stand is about 14 1/2" tall. It's a delightful view of the world at the time- lots of states missing, different country names and borders, etc. It's on a cast iron stand, with a wooden ring surrounding it. Antique 12" G.W. Bacon Terrestrial Globe on Cast Iron Table Top Mount This globe is most likely an early cooperation between Weber Costello in Chicago and British Map maker George Washington Bacon. Weber Costello imported the paper gores( map) from England and then applied them to their own plaster orbs and mounts. Most bear the Weber Costello logo but this example does not. Polanded gain independence in 1917 yet it looks like the Austro Hungarian Empire is in the process of being broken up and separated into Austria. Hungary and other Balkan countries. Though Czechoslovakia is not yet shown. This lets me believe this map to be made during WW1 as its not yet reflecting the treaty of Versailles, the post WW1 conference when post war borders were negotiated. This is a rare map display. Born in Lockport. New York state, George Washington ... moreBacon moved to London in 1861. Franklin Terrestrial Globe of Geographical Divisions and Political Boundaries. This item was discovered in an estate attic and very carefully dusted. We believe this 10" diameter Globe is pre-1900. It appears to us to be in very good condition for its age. But. We know your view of it's condition is what really matters. It is sturdy and fully intact. The Globe will lift completely off its support. The base is 10" in diameter and fully solid with the shaft and connecting curvilinear Globe shaft. The base is heavy and looks to be some sort of cast iron covered with a lighter metal with a green and gold leaf-like design. This uncommon Hammonds 6" terrestrial table globe is a variation of the more common 12" globes with an atlas base. The attractive. Colorful gore has many details including: an analemma, ocean currents. And nautical distances. However, it is the mounting that truly amps up the visual appeal of this globe. T he globe is mounted in a full cast metal meridian. Finished in copper accents; with a metal time dial at the North Pole. And the metal meridian is cradled in a light colored wooden base on four feet. The 6.5" x 9" ... morex 2" wooden base houses the red covered original Hammonds atlas. This globe looks terrific displayed on a desk, bookshelf, fireplace mantel, etc. This globe reflects the world as it was after WWI(1918) and before WWII(1939) a time of great change throughout much of the world. The George F. Cramm Co. Universal Terrestrial Globe 10.5" 1958 era.
This was in my grandmother's closet and has been kept there for many years. She used it when her children were studying Geography. Comes from a non smoking home. I have been able to date it to the 1958 era as shown in picture the location is titled Syria and in 1958 it was changed to Syria U.A.R. Some other changes you will se to help you date it is what is now Togo was labeled as Dahomey. Also able to be seen in a picture. This is a great time piece that captures the changes in history. Made in Indianapolis, IN. Spins on axis with no resistant. Shows no major wear.

Up for auction is a 12" Rand McNally Indexed Terrestrial Art globe with a wood stand from the 1930's. There is no date on the globe. There is a patent number on the top of the globe. The patent number is 1877306 and was published in 1932. The globe does need a cleaning. The globe is yellowish on the bottom and a little darker on the top. As far as I know the original color is close to what is on the bottom. The globe is in overall good shape for it's age. Please see the pics for the best description. 1950s(?) Cram's Universal Terrestrial Globe 12 inch
This vibrantly colored globe is in very nice condition considering its age. I believe it is from the 50s. Continent Antarctic. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and Dominion of Canada are printed on this vintage piece. The base of the stand is a tin like metal, the metal circling the globe appears to be brass. Please see pics. The piece of paper going around the Equator is missing a little over 4 inches over Africa. There is a 2 1/2 inch piece of transparent tape just west of South America. Delitsch began designing map segments for Felkl terrestrial globes with two to three levels of elevation. Felkl. Jan(1817-1887) Prague Rostock Vienna In 1855 Felkl offered an illustrated prospectus for globes in six various sizes. Within the next 20 years. Felkl rose to be the largest globe manufacturer within the Austro-Hungarian market, producing terrestrial and celestial globes in 17 languages. Stands 14” tall. 6” Diameter.
