It is interesting to see how some of the names for places have shifted since this globe was made. For example. Empire of Japan" Belgian Congo" and"French Equatorial Africa" all point out what the war did to literally change the map of the world. The globe stands about 16" tall with the base and azimuth ring. WWII-era vintage c1939 Weber Costello 8" Terrestrial School Globe World Map
Description I believe this globe is from the early WWII era. Possibly around 1939. This is my best guess as not everything on the map is consistent with a specific era. Reasons I believe this is from circ 1939 are listed below: Irish Free State(become Ireland in 1937) Italian East Africa(established in 1936) Manchukuo(renamed by Japan when they seized control of Manchuria from1931-1945) Taiwan as a territory of Japan(occupation by Japan ended with their surrender to the USN in 1945) There is no Israel or Lebanon(established 1948 and 1943 respectively) Poland(not yet shown as part of Germany when it was invaded in 1939 until Allied victory in 1945) The school globe is covered with 12 individual paper gores and has a diameter of 8" and a total height of 11" The meridian is made of metal. The globe has definitely seen better days but ... morestill a good-looking globe. Some separation of the paper gores and cracks throughout. As well as the expected scuffing and paper wear consistent with its age and former use as a school teaching aid. I don't see a copyright date but believe it to be before WW1. Russia is simply Russia. Globe is rather rough with digs. Gouges,scrapes and loss. VTG Antique RAND McNALLY 9" TERRESTRIAL GLOBE with METAL STAND Very Nice!!
You are bidding on a vintage Rand McNally 9 inch Terrestrial globe on a metal stand. Both the globe and its stand are in great condition for their age. With some light blemishes in spots from use. Additionally, a bit of the equator sticker is gone, I located a puncture south of the Hawaiian Islands, and there is an area of rust along the edge of the stand. The globe is colored an antiqued off-white/beige and is made to look like ancient parchment. Located around the globe are sketches of famous explorers' ships. I've spent some time looking up various geographic points on the globe, trying to determine its age. As near as I can tell, it dates to the late 1930's. It does not have Israel defined as a state, so pre-1948; it does not have Germany divided between East and West, so pre-1945; it has Istanbul instead of Constantinople, ... moreso post-1930; Persia had been renamed Iran, so post-1935; I cannot locate Austria, which was annexed in 1938; and, finally, Poland looks whole, and it was siezed and split up by Germany and Russia in 1939. This is Beautiful Vintage Cram's Unrivaled Terrestrial 12" World Globe that defines the old saying"they don't make'm like they use to" Awesome heavy wooden base. Which looks to be Oak. The thick black steel numbered Meridian frames the entire piece. It does have a couple of rough spots as photoed. It came from an estate auction in the Charleston, SC area a couple of weeks ago. I've pictured it exactly how it was when purchased. Beyond the rough spots I mentioned, it needs to be cleaned. However, as far as globes go, it is one of the more"eye catching" ones that I've seen at this size. Really makes an impression. It is approximately 17" tall, with the Meridian included the total width is about 13" and the base is 9" wide& approx. 1 1/2" thick. The steel Meridian is approx. ... more3/4" wide& 1/2" thick. Globe lights up and comes with the original flex and bakelite toggle switch. The base is wooden. Polished aluminium Meriden/scale holder. Overall in very good condition. There are a few marks to the wood/lacquer on the base but this could be varnished/restored if you so wished. Requires a new bulb to be fitted. Antique 1920's- 30s 12" Phillips World Terrestrial Globe
This is an old Phillips globe that I think is from the late 1920s or 30s. Measures 12" Has some condition issues as can be seen in the pics. Well.actually the pics make it look worse than it is; there seems to have been some sort of dark finish that has come off the top portion(mostly still intact in the Southern hemisphere) the glare from the flash makes it look like large areas of the surface are missing. But actually the graphics are only lost in a few patchy areas(mostly central Europe, the North Pole and a spot in the Mid East)

For auction is a very neat early(1940's) vintage Cram's Universal Terrestrial 9" Globe. It was copyrighted by the George F. Cram Co. Indianapolis, Indiana,USA and is marked No. 90. To mention some features, it shows the Sargasso Sea in the North Atlantic ocean, Italian Somaliland and an analemma of the sun's declination for every day of the year. The globe is in age appropriate condition with some dings, scrapes and scuffs resulting in some small spots of paper loss. Some narrow separation of the map strips and a split(tear) across the strip at edge of Greenland, above Iceland, that appears as if it could have happened when the map was originally glued to the globe. This piece dates from the early 1900's most likey used in a school or college. This globe is in nice condition for surviving over a hundred years. All original parts including hardware. Wood months ring and cast metal parts. Wood ring very nice with all 12 months showing only age wear, globe has yellowing age wear and I'm not sure how to clean so I will leave this up to the buyer, also as seen in pictures there are some small area's of paper wear to globe but does not take away from the beauty and purpose of this globe. Up for auction is a Rand McNally Globe. I believe this globe was made during the Cold War. The globe is in pretty good condition there is a small piece that was ripped off. I have taken a picture of it. Please refer to photos. I believe this globe dates between 1968 and 1979 but I can not be for sure. There is no copy right date and the oldest fact that I can find on the globe is from 1967. So it has to be made after that however Rhodesia was only a country uptill 1979 so I assume this Globe was made before that. The globe is 12 inches and with the stand included stands about 17 inches. I am selling a very fine J Forest globe terrestre dating from the late 19th century. Normal 0 GLOBE TERRESTRE Dressé par J. FOREST GÉOGRAPHE EN VENTE A PARIS Chez l'Auteur 17. Rue de Buci 17 This 15 cm. diameter terrestrial table globe made up of twelve chromolithographed gores and two polar calottes. The oceans with ocean currents, steamship routes boldly shown in red with ports of arrival and departure, some with journey time in days, submarine cables and extent of antarctic drift ice, the continents shaded green, pink, yellow and orange with national boundaries boldly marked in red, showing towns, cities, rivers, railway and telegraph lines and the Great Wall of China. With a brass acorn finial and a turning handle(no longer working. Turns but doesn't turn the globe thread worn I suspect) raised via a short brass arm ... moreto an ebonised baluster-turned wooden column and plinth base. Few minor abrasions to South America(rubbing see pic) and a finger tip dent to central Africa(the photograph has massively accentuated this. Not terribly visible to the naked eye) Some scuffs to the ebonised base. It stands 29cms high A slightly larger version of this globe sold at Christies Amsterdam in 2001 for 646 euros. This is a nice example in relatively good condition for it's age. This is an amazing piece of history. the globe is starting to come apart at the middle seam. you can push it back together but it doen's stay and needs glued. Terrestrial Globe 12 inches in diameter Wow! What a find. This globe was American Made around the Mid forties. everything appear to be original. All writing on globe is still very readable. Plug shows age but still works and globe lights up. light switch is on bottom attached to what I think is called the base. This base has a long screw that goes through the globe to the top. IT IS LOOSE. I personally would not attempt to tighten it. wood base also shows age. Still very solid. There is a sleeve that hold an Atlas map hard cover book. Pages are slightly yellow. Still very clear to read. All pages are there with no writing on them. Sorry! I will not mail out of country. And I will not sell without insurance. ALL MY ITEMS ARE BASICALLY FINDINGS. Antique Philips 19 inch Terrestrial Globe 1962
PHILIPS 19 inch terrestrial globe. 1962. This is a large and impressive table globe from the British company Philips. Dated 1962. The globe is constructed from two hemispherical aluminium shells, joined at the equator, with 12 hand-applied paper gores. It is reinforced internally by a hardboard disc with steel rim at the equator and a wooden cylinder along the axis. The globe is mounted on a turned mahogany base with a heavy cantilevered aluminium bracket supporting the axis. The map retains good colour but shows some browning and craquelure due to degradation of the lacquer. Aluminium globe shells are quite soft and particularly susceptible to denting. This example has one dent off the south west coast of Africa and a smaller one west of the southern tip of South America- both are pictured. I have up for sale a nice vintage original circa 1930- 1935 GEORGE F CRAM CO Indianapolis. Indiana 12" Terrestrial World Globe. It has an attractive heavy cast iron base. It would date from circa 1931 to 1935 indicated by the use of a PERSIA which changed to Iran in 1935 and the use of ISTANBUL which prior to 1930 was called CONSTANTINOPLE. Manchuria is called both MANCHURIA OR MANCHOUKUO and Saudi Arabia is the KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA. The globe is in good but used condition. There are indications of use and of age as noted in the above description. The globe very possibly was used in a school. It has some light discoloration in spots.
