Up for bid is this St. Louis San Francisco Railway Company 1970 Competitive& Interchange Point Wall Map. The primary states on the map include Missouri. Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. There is an inset of Alabama and Florida. The map measures approximately 22 inches by 30 inches. The map is one of 100 copies produced for the railroad by the Hall Topeka Printers/Lithographers. It appears the map was produced by the Freight Traffic Department on October 1. 1970. We purchased the maps at an auction. The maps were in their original shipping package as sent from the printer(package label pictured) It is impossible to be an expert in all the different areas of items we sell. I am offering this wonderful map of the City of San Francisco from 1856. Engraved by Henry Bill, who was a Connecticut based publisher in the 19th century. This particular image was published in Samuel Mander's History of the World. Which Bill published. The view shown on the map is from Nob Hill. Looking down California Street. It specifically identifies certain important locations and buildings with a numbered key, showing the following: North Bay, Contra Costa, Yerba Buena Island, California Exchange, Plaza, Leonards Warehouse, Rincon Point, Market Street Pier, California Street, Central Wharf, Catholic Church, Marine Telegraph and Anjill Island. There is also a note under the image which states"Entered according to the Act of Congress in the Year 1852 by Henry Bill in the Clerks Officer of the District Court of the District of ... moreConnecticut. This image was published several times in the early 1850s, but was only separately published in 1856. The map itself measures 18"x 12" to the outside of the border. And is framed in a simple oak frame; the outside of the frame measures 19 1/2" x 13 1/2" There are some condition issues; the map was originally folded, so the folds are visible. There is a tear on the upper left portion of the map, which is limited to the border and not to the image. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders and fold lines of the maps may also have tears. It is a folded Micro Map of both the Los Angeles and San Francisco area airports promoting the Boeing 727 Fan Jets. LAX. Burbank, Ontario, San Francisco and San Jose airports are highlighted on this two sided fold out map. The outside looks like a big matchbook. When folded it measures approximately 3” x 3” It is black lettering on a gold foil background. One side says“Compliments of Continental Airlines. It contains photos and stories about all the exhibits along with a bit of advertising. Inside the front cover there is a large map of the island inserted into the binding. Also included is the daily program for August 12& 13. 1940. Inside the book I also found a 2 page typed press release for August 2, 1940. This will also be included. All of this is in good condition with no missing pages and no odors. There is a bit of pencil writing inside the front cover on the back of the map and a 2 inch tear where the map inserts into the book binding. The book covers have light creases and dog eared corners.
