Antique Early 1900's Pull Down Classroom Map of Asia
For sale is an incredible antique school wall map of Asia that was manufactured in Chicago. Illinois by A.J. Nystrom& Co. This wonderfully aged map is printed on a canvas material and comes with the original metal bracket which still works and is very easy to mount. Due to the fragile nature of the map, it must be removed from the metal bracket to roll it up and down by hand. Have no fear though, it's very easy to do. The original wooden rod is still attached to the bottom of the chart. This map would look great hanging in your library or study or would serve as a great educational work of art in your child's bedroom! Additional details: Measurements(with bracket) Approximately 54.25" Long x 41” wide Circa: 1920's Item Condition: Good antique condition! Colors remain bold and vivid. As noted above. Near the bottom center of the map, about 4 or 5 inches below Sumatra, a chunk of the map's surface has worn away, exposing the canvas material beneath. Nystrom& Co. a" Division of Carnation Company. Chicago, Illinois 60618" and based on my limited research I believe this map was issued in 1958. The Bonne's Projection Scale is 1: 7,000,000(70 Kilometers to the Centimeter/ 110 miles to the inch. The Horizontal scale for the mountain ranges is the same as the map, the vertical exaggeration is 50 to 1. In addition to the central map of North America and its Oceans. Three smaller maps located along the bottom show annual rainfall. ... moreDistribution of people and land utilization. The map is 43 inches wide and 63 inches long and is mounted on 3/4 inch diameter wooden dowels at its top and bottom. The wooden dowel at the top is attached to a 47 inch long. 1 1/2 inch wide, gray metal bracket for wall mounting. The map pulls down. Locks in viewing position and retracts smoothly and easily. It is made from heavy weight. Glossy paper, that is suitable for use with water soluble markers. The map's surface is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Its colors are bright and all labels are easily read with no fading, no tears, rips, stains, discoloration and no pen or marker residue. The only very minor imperfections are a small 1/4 inch long. Worn area, along the blue border. 2 1/2 inches from the bottom of the map, a small 1/4 inch long break in approximately the same spot on the opposite side of the map and some wear to the varnish along one side of the bottom dowel. This is a Vintage School Pull-Down Map of Mexico. Central America, and West Indies. The map is in excellent condition. There is NO damage to the map. But the map has detached from the roller. It appears that the top portion of the map was stapled to the roller(see photo 12) It should be an easy fix if you have a staple gun. The roller seems to work, but I am not positive because the map is not attached. The map has a wood handle at the bottom with a metal hoop. The roller is made by HARTSHORN. The roller reads- Hartshorn Self-Acting Roller" The bottom of the map reads as follows- Denoyer-Geppert Co. Chicago" The lower right-hand corner of the map reads- Constructed& Printed by W& AK. This big pull down map was made in 1945 by Cram Maps. Overall dimensions are 55" high x 51" wide. Size of actual map is 41" high x 49" wide. This map has exceptionally vivid colors and will show well on a home. Office or business wall. It is on canvas and has a wear proof finish and is in very good overall condition. There is wear to the edges as shown and there is a vertical tear that extends from the top left edge downward into the state of Washington as shown. Tear has been crudely repaired but could easily be restored. This is an historic map as it was produced at the very tail end of the World War II. Rare North Carolina as a Civil War Battleground - Pull Out Map NC
Published in 1975(third printing) by the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources in Raleigh. This little 99 page volume is a valuable resource for what occurred in preparation for the war and in NC during the war. The author was in the Department of History at VMI. It looks to me like a former library book as there is old glue on the back inside cover with"withdrawn" stamped on the same side. As you can see in the photos. Tape has been placed on the outside binding and the cover is loose at the bottom. I've enjoyed this book and I hope you will too. It's downsizing time for me. The pull down spring loaded wood rod and metal hanger/mounting brackets work perfectly. Some age discoloration on the back. Esp. about 5" on the bottom. The Cram world map also has a teacher name written on it in a couple of places. Arrows in picture indicate small areas that are beginning to crack. These areas are not through the whole map. The map gives a comprehensive view of the entire United States with intricate shading and detail of its physical features. The map is in overal very good condition and is mounted on a wooden roller and attached to a metal wall bracket. The map pulls down easily and retracks well. The map is on heavy gloss paper with very nice colors. It is ready to hang or be framed. There is some slight residue and creasing near the wooden pull down bar but other than that this map is in over all very nice condition for its age. Denoyer Geppert World Pyhsical Political Map 63" X 40" Pull Down 1967 Awesome
This is a 1967 Denoyer Geppert World Physical and Political Map. The map section measures 63" wide by 40" tall. The spring loaded roll up bar is there but not the frame that holds it. This map has just awesome vintage color. There are plenty of small holes and wrinkles but they have been clear taped over and the map still displays fantastic. Look at the pictures closely and you will see the major flaws. I want to be honest and say that if you are looking for a collectors grade map this ain't it. But this is a really bright. Highly colorful, map that shows great and would make a great wall decoration, Thanks for looking.

Cram Company map of South and Central America that also includes a generous slice of Cuba and nearly all of the Carribean. It measures 4' by 5' and both dowels(roll rods) are intact. This fabulous map hung in a southern Kentucky school room for 73 years until we discovered it at a large sale. Likely. You don't need to be told how growingly rare, important and collectable large antique class room pull down maps are becoming but I'll launch into a short explanation for anyone new to the hobby. This map, especially, is a must have if you're a collector, decorator or map nut. Here's why. Large teaching maps. Like this one, began ... moretheir slide into dis-use with the advent of the Internet. Today kids can find high quality, high resolution and completely up-to-date maps on their laptop in a flash. As maps like this were removed from classrooms they were often tossed into the school furnace or offered to teachers and staff for free. Those that took home these beautiful, large maps opted to take the'desireable' or practical maps that they could use most readily. That meant that maps of the U.S. were snapped up.
