This is a listing for a Map of POLAND From 1923! I don't know the language. So I can't tell you much more about it. It has wood strips attached to either end and is meant to roll up. The entire map measures about 38"x33" A really nice-looking vintage map- great colors. There is a small 1" tear on the interior of the map that I tried to show in the photos. An Alexandrine Greek, is probably the greatest of all early geographers. Working out of Alexandria in the first century AD he wrote a geography that was only published in Europe in the mid 1400's. His work provided the first real printed maps and he was held in such high regard that few attempted to correct these thousand plus year old descriptions until the mid 1500's. This map comes from Ruscelli's'Ptolemaeus La Geografia' which published new(Tabula Nova) maps along with Ptolemy's originals. This map is from the 1574 edition of the atlas. Published in Venice by G. Ziletti. This is the'new' map of the region which includes Poland and Hungary and stretches ... moreas far as modern day Ukraine and the Dnieper river. Krakow(Cracovia) can be seen in the centre west. Grodno in the centre north, Buda& Pest in the lower west while the Danube river flows through the whole southern section. His atlases are deservedly held in high esteem for their excellence. His Handatlas was the leading German world atlas of the 19th Century Justus Perthes(1749- 1812) was one of the most important German cartographic engravers of the 19th century. Perthes began his publishing empire with the 1784 issue of the famed survey of European nobility known as the Almanac de Gotha. In 1817 Perthes switched his focus to cartographic publishing.
