It is from Houze's Atlas Universel Historique et Geographique(Paris: Dumenil. 1841) A copy of the Atlas title page with date is included for authenticity. The name of A. Houze appears in the title block, under whose directions the maps were designed and engraved. It is being sold as a single sheet, not mounted, matted nor framed, basically as seen in the pic, photographed against a dark background so you can see all the edges and actual condition. The map was actually printed in 1841, but depicts an earlier historical period, prepared by Houze, a member of the Societe de Geographie in Paris. A great map for anyone interested in this historical period. Overall a very nice example printed on strong paper with original handcolor in great shape. Size: The map image measures approximately 8 by 11(20x28cm) inches on a 10 by 13" 26x33cm) page with a margin all around for matting. As seen in the main pic. Condition: It is in Very Good condition for its age with light tonal ageing. They have been numbered in India Ink in the corner. Other than a few minor specks in the margin and one small nick on the top edge. It is very clean with a nice overall antique appearance and superb color that would frame up nicely. It is printed on heavy paper with original hand coloring, blank on the reverse. See the pic of the actual map for a better idea of the actual condition. Antique USGS Map- Reprinted 1909 from November 1896 edition- Maine: Norway Sheet" portion along the Oxford& Cumberland County line. Including Norway, South Paris, Waterford, Harrison, Bridgton, Otisfield, Casco. Includes Long Lake. Keoka Lake, Pennesseewassee Lake(aka Norway Lake) Pleasant Lake, Highland Lake etc. Map is in fair-to-poor condition: the map has fold creases. Most of the left border has been cut off with scissors(probably to make it fit in a frame at one time) there is a 2 inch tear near Waterford along the left border, there is another small 1/4 inch tear near the center along the vertical fold(however, NO PIECES ARE MISSING) someone has drawn grid lines in a section near East Waterford, someone has written"Crystal Lake" in pencil over Anonymous Pond just north of Harrison, someone has written"314 rods ... moreto the inch" in pencil near the bottom right corner, and someone has written"Norway" in ink on the back of the map. The map is also yellowed(although not quite as bad as in the larger photos-I had poor lighting) and there are several smudges mostly visible on the back side. Also a small rectangular stain in the upper right corner where a price tag was once affixed. SEE PHOTOS* I realize there are a lot of problems with this map. I use a scanner and it is too big for it but I scanned a portion of it so you can see how it is designed. A Leconte was a well regarded publisher of maps from the 1890's to about 1930 if my research is correct. A hard back copy of this map sold for 200 hundred dollars so pick up a bargain! It is from Morse and Gaston's Diamond Atlas. Published in New York by Samuel Gaston. 1857. A facsimile copy of the title page will also be included for authenticity. It is by Samuel Gaston and Sidney Morse, the brother of Samuel Morse, the inventor of the telegraph. Their father was Jedidiah Morse, also a mapmaker and publisher in New York. The map is not mounted, matted nor framed, being sold as a single sheet as seen in the pic. Overall, a nice antique miniature map that would frame up nicely! Size: The map image measures approximately 5 by 6 inches(12x15cm) ... moreon a 6 by 7 1/4" 15x18cm) page with a margin all around for framing as seen in the pic. Condition: The map is in Very Good condition for its age with overall tonal aging and original hand coloring as issued. Overall. It is very clean with only a couple of spots in the margin, see the pic for more on condition. It is printed on heavy paper with a rich antique appearance that would frame up nicely. The other side is Plan de Paris divide en 20 Arrondissements dress par L. Guilmin. Measures 21" X 25" and folds up to 5" X 3 1/2" This will be mailed folded up. There is a little writing in the margin in pencil, and some tears at the folds. Chips to margins. A fair to good copy.

Condition/ Defects: The map is in very good clean and bright condition; no holes in the cloth.
