Printed on quality hand made paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. This is a lovely example of an old map with beautiful hand color. In VG or better condition some light minor age wear but this is typical. The image remains clean, attractive and very presentable[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of an interesting antique map. Any minor defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. Sheet measures c. 16 3/8" W x 10 5/8" H. This is the Samuel Augustus Mitchell map of North America as published by Thomas Cowperthwait in 1850. The recently admitted states of Iowa(1846) and Wisconsin(1848) are both shown as are Indian Territory and the territories of Missouri. Utah, and Minnesota. The presence of California and Utah Territory shows that the map was very current since both were formed at the same time in 1850. The map is in absolutely perfect condition with no tears,stains, or foxing. The printed surface is 15 1/2" x 12 1/2" with 5/8" top and bottom margins, 5/16" right margin and 1/8" left margin. A fine and rare piece of American history.

Page 3 has a# 10 on the top of the page. There is a small stain on the outside top edge of the album, which you can see on my photos. It is also seen on the top of pages 7, 8, 12, 13. Very light spot from this, which is hardly noticeable on pages 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and the back cover. A tiny black mark on the back cover.
