1759 antique nautical map view WARSHIP BATTLE England & France East India Co.
This mid 18th century perspective view shows the port of Pondicherry. India which was the East India Company's main port in India during the 1700's. France took control of this area of India's coastline in 1674 and the British fought a sea battle here in 1759 under British squadron leader Vice-Admiral George Pocock and then the British came back and fought the French again who finally surrendered in 1761 after a lengthy blockade of the port(this view was published by Daumont in Paris, France during that period c.1759-1761) This view is quite large measuring 11 1/2" x 17" and is on laid or"cotton rag" paper and was hand colored to highlight a few areas on the view. Condition: there is a pair of brown foxing spots in sky and one spot near left ship but nothing distracting from its overall look. NICE VINTAGE GERMAN"WANDERER" NAUTICAL COMPASS& MAP MEASURE COMBINATION TOOL This is a neat little vintage nautical"Wanderer" compass made in Germany and also features a reverse side map measure device. It still has some greenish-blue lead for marking the distances needed. Size: 3" high by 2" across. And face on each side measures 1 3/16" in diameter. It converts Inches to Miles. I am not even close to an expert or collector of vintage compasses like this so I will do my best to describe it's condition via text& photos. The"wheel" at the bottom does move in conjunction with the needle to measure the conversion of inches to miles. Vintage Masketeers World Globe Map Brass Ship Maritime Nautical Compass Antique
Up for auction a Vintage 1967 Masketeers map. This is a authentic piece however it replicates The 1600's World Globe Map and is Brass Chipboard Wall Art. This Beautiful Masketeer World Map is in very good condition for its age with minor scuffs. And has some minor surface rust on the brass. I started to clean it up and the rust does come off with ease. I do not have the appropriate brass cleaner so i will leave it up to the new owner. For an original from 1967 this chipboard is in unbeliveble condition and who ever previously own it took oustanding care of it. The brass shines like its brand new and the detail of the art is beautiful. It does not appear to have been ever used. It is clean and smooth. There is a tiny nick in the left center edge of paper and a little bit of light smudging in margins beyond the black border of the image. The chart is printed on very unusual thick paper that has an almost glossy shine. I believe this was a Japanese chart that at some point was dressed with labels at top and bottom margins by the Chinese government authorities. In the lower right corner the chart number is listed in Chinese as American chart number 6140. The dates on this chart are many. In English it is indicated as"1st edition 1951. Here we have a beautiful pair[1] of vintage brass and steel dividers of the type used with nautical charts and maps. Made by and is marked W&HC as well as MADE IN ENGLAND. Is a very high quality with no damage or problems. Legs are not sprung and line up as they sshould.
