Description: A rare and important 1818 map of the Eastern Hemisphere by John Pinkerton. Depicts Asia. Europe, Africa and Australia. The routes of various important explores are noted, including Cook, Vancouver, Perouse, and the return route taken by Cook's ship, the Resolution, following his death in Hawaii. This map offers fairly accurate shorelines throughout. In Africa, the interior remains unexplored except for the Congo, the Cape Colony, the gold mining regions of Monomotapa, and Abyssinia. Similarly, the coasts of Australia are accurate but the interior is vague and unknown. In Asia there are several notations regarding unexplored territories in southwestern China and Central Asia. Far to the north, in the high Arctic, there is a partial land mass with the note Coast discovered by the Hunters employed by m. Liakhov" This land refers to the Lyakhov Islands, discovered in the 1770s by Russian Fur trader Ivan Lyakhov. These islands, part of New Siberia, were said to have such an abundance of fossilized mammoth ivory that many of the smaller islands were formed from it in their entirety. Lyakhov himself brought back 10,000 tons of Ivory on his first trip and subsequent traders are said to have brought back as much as 100,000 tons in the following 20 years. Drawn by L. Vintage Raised Relief c1969 Moon Globe by Frontier Education Space Age Rare
A Rare Raised Relief Moon Globe c1969 by Frontier Education Patent Pending The year 1969 marked the monumental landmark in the Space Race with Neil Armstrong's first steps on the Moon. This rare raised relief Lunar globe commemorates that accomplishment. Displayed in 3-D realistic detail the mysterious Far side is revealed! The orb is petitioned by the meridian with the Far side denoted in black and the Earth side in white. The globe is mounted with a aluminum ferule atop of a laminated. Pyramidal wood base and an aluminum plaque which reads"Educational Frontiers, Inc. copyright 1969 Patent Pending Forest Hills, New York" The first images of the far side of the moon were taken in 1959 by the Soviet Luna 3 but the images were crude and grainy. Subsequent space probes succeeded in photographing the Far side in much greater detail ... moreby 1967. It wasn't until the Apollo 8 mission in 1968 that astronauts orbited the moon in preparation for the Apollo 11 moon landing that saw the far side for the first time with human eyes. The Soviets released a lunar globe from the compilation of photographs in 1967 that was 95 percent complete. After the Moon landing in 1969 NASA commissioned a Lunar globe that was produced by the Denoyer-Geppert Co. Neither of these were a raised relief. This topographical globe was only produced in a limited edition. The head of the Hayden Planetarium pronounced it"one of the finest celestial models he had ever seen. So much so that CBS bought exclusive rights to use it for TV simulations on Walter Cronkite's coverage of the moon landing. An unusual sized orb at 13 inches in diameter comprised of a plastic/bakelite material. The approximate height is 20 inches. The condition of the globe is very good with a small piece that looks like it might have been cracked(repaired) and a drop of paint. The base has wear to the laminated pieces. Here is a very interesting and quite scarce globe shaped commemorative sphere. Or ball, commemorating the First Moon Landing by US Apollo 11. July 20, 1969. This piece is British made by Aynsley. England. A maker of fine china dating to 1775. On the bottom is the Aynsley mark. That reads, AYNSLEY Est. 1775. England, Fine English Bone China" I show this mark in Photos 7& 8. Hi! Please consider this wonderful. Mechanical school house globe with the rare and most difficult to find lead moon that acts as a counterbalance. The cartouche says"Terrestrial Globe- Eau Claire Book and Stationary Co. Eau Claire, Wis. It measures about 14" across and has a cast iron swivel holder so the globe can be spun in any direction when suspended. The globe is hung on a rope, run through a pulley across the room to another pulley and down to the lead, black and white moon. At the proper distance across the room, when the globe is pulled down by the teacher for viewing, the lead moon(extremely heavy) rises and the 2 are in balance. When the educator is finished, she puts the lead moon on a lower surface and the globe is lifted out of sight and hands of curious and rambunctious children(an ingenious safety feature) The system ... moreworks perfectly at the correct distance. The gores are paper, there is a brass knob at the top and the circular device and holder around the globe is made of cast iron and has numbers on it. The moon measures about 4" across and weighs 9 pounds- it is quite dense. At one time there was a piece of scotch tape put on and removed from the USSR and there is a small dent in South America. Both photos are shown. Otherwise there are no breaks, cracks, repairs or other concerns with this outstanding schoolhouse globe. It shows currents. Equations of the time of day, and lots of other interesting information, I don't know when this was made but feel secure that it was early in the 1900's. It however is not without its little flaws. I did find one small dent near the Mare Crisium crater, I tried numerous time to get it to show up in a picture but did not succeed. There is some light surface rust on the bare metal underside of the base, this is purely superficial and affects the globe in no way. ORIGINAL BOSTON GLOBE NEWSPAPER from JULY 21. 1969 Features. MAN WALKS ON MOON" and covers the first human imprint on lunar soil made five hours after landing by Neil Armstrong. The interesting thing about this particular Boston Globe publication is that their is a fairly significant misprint on the front page which can be seen in photograph# 5. Note that the time of moon walk indicates 10:56.20 on July 29. 1969 which is 8 days after this newspaper was published on July 21,1969. This is clearly an historic event and this misprint therefore is of historic proportion. Competitors of The Boston Globe, collectors or conspiracy theorists should all have interest in this auction. I think this is the version that came out shortly after the moon landing. It is 12" in diameter. This may be the globe of a moon in a parallel reality. Because it looks like this one was hit by a large asteroid. Or maybe it fell down the stairs. There is an indentation between"Lake Of Dreams" and"Sea Of Crises" Also there are scuffs/scratches and a few little stress cracks.

Includes the original plastic stand as seen in photos. No sign of abuse or misuse. I see no markings or writing. What I do see. And tried to show in a photo or two, are some small wrinkles that I believe were part of the manufacturing process and not damage. There does seem to be some discoloration in the seams of this globe as seen in photos. Not sure if it from age or was always that way.there are brown-ish spots here and there but when I look closely it appears these are part of the image- I could be wrong so please look carefully at photos! The seam coloration appears to be the same as the"spots" so again I don't know if it's age or meant to be there. Please ignore ... morethe piece of stone I used to hold the lid down in photo#6- it is not included. And it is NOT a moon rock! The Moon Globe by Replogle Globes, Chicago 1963 plus Celestial Globe
The Moon Globe by Replogle. 1963, made in Chicago. No stand or base, no scratches. Single dent at Philips/Humboldt craters. This globe was actually sent and used as a prop in the HBO television series, From the Earth to the Moon. Prop mistress* called and asked if I had things and artifacts to dress several sets. How about a globe of the Moon, circa 1963? The rest in Hollywood prop history. 6 1/2" tall/16cm. PLUS The Celetrial Globe, copyright Scan-Globe A/S 1970, made by Replogle. This one does have two dents and the two halves need to be pushed or locked together properly. It is missing the bottom plug or pin. Neither globe has a base. The Moon's two halves also could be realigned better, but I'm not going to open it and reset it. Earlier she had called and needed props for the film, Star Gate. Lots of fun and hard work.
