II Africae Complectens Africam Proprie Dictam, map has some tape residue and small tears around the edges, only a few of the latter actually encroaching, and then only minimally, on the map proper. Aside from some light even age toning and light creasing, condition is otherwise excellent with attractive hand coloring. Image size approximately 13 x 18 inches. Map features images of Sardinia, Sicily, Malta and Northern Africa, and has endearing images of a tiger and lion at the bottom. 1695 MERCATOR MAP of AFGHANISTAN ARAL SEA INDIA SINDH PAKISTAN ARIAM PAROPANISUM
I have here for sale an original seventeenth century map of Central Asia from the ARAL SEA across to INDIA and AFGHANISTAN. This is a MERCATOR map and was possibly published in 1720. Or possibly 1695. Entitled TABULA IX ASIAE continens ARIAM, PAROPANISUM, DRANGIANAM, ARACHOSIAM et GEDROSIAM, medius Meridianus jjj, ad quem reliqui inclinantur ratione parallelorum 24 et 34. Covers up to the Daradrae who may be the Sogdians. 45 cm by 58 cm. So this is not the much smaller 1720 edition. It is in very good condition but there is a 2cm tear along the central fold at the top. Good wide margins all round. The cartouche is decorated with oriental trader and a long haired half naked eastern beauty. I have a large number of other maps and prints for sale. The German raiders were also known as Auxiliary Cruisers. Each was a conversion and had at least five identities: the original merchant name. The prefix HSK and number given when conversion started, a Schiff number used for signal purposes and her actual name as a raider, chosen by the captain. Finally once a raider was known to exist, the British Admiralty would designate a letter of identity starting from"A" and in order of discovery. It is about an 11.5 inches(29.21 cm) globe that stands about 24 inches(61 cm) tall on its possibly newer(not original) wood stand. It reads all in Latin and I can't find any date or maker on it other than Mercator. Here's what I stated about this ornate rare globe's condition: It was likely more vibrantly colored originally but coloring has faded significantly due to great age. Some minor light scuffing. Dimensions: 14 x 18 inches(35.5 x 45.7 cm) This is an authentic antique map of the Strait of Magellan and Terra del Fuego. The map was published in Gerard Mercator’s“Atlas sive Cosmographicae Meditationes… out of Amsterdam in 1613. Centered on an exquisite compass rose. This map bears a southern projection with North pointing towards the bottom of the map. While the Strait of Magellan is the focus of the map, one must note the southern land titled Terra Del Fuogo is mapped with a mountainous and well defined coastline extending into the unknown southern continent. This map predates the discovery of the route around Cape Horn by Schouten and LeMarie in 1616 that ultimately proved that Terra del Fuego was ... morean island. Not only is this map the first map of the Strait of Magellan to appear in a commercial atlas. It’s one of a few sea charts produced by Mercator. From end to end, the strait is loaded with various soundings and about 17 place names. The lower left portion of the map features a view of the entrance to the Strait, likely derived from earlier Dutch books. Several sailing ships, a large sea monster and a sea lion family embellish the map. The title cartouche is that of early baroque style and is flanked by two penguins. Another distance scale cartouche fills the lore right. This is a great piece for anyone with an interest in early exploration. For over 100 years. The Strait of Magellan was believed to be the only sure way to sail from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Not much changed when Cape Horn was circumnavigated in 1616. As countless attempts to find a Northwest Passage proved unsuccessful for hundreds of years, the Strait of Magellan continued to be used extensively until the opening of the Panama Canal in 1914. And the water rushes round and descends into the Earth just as if one were pouring it through a filter funnel. Vintage Large Hearne Brothers Student Participation Projection World Map is up for bids. Was used in a classroom setting. Has wrinkles on it, a few small holes, some minor foxing and faint stains in a few places(some pix of this) some tape residue on the top edges. Heavyweight paper, appears to have some reinforcement cloth or something along those lines on the back. Wonderful intense blue, does not have a date on it, based on it's looks I would guess 60s or 70s but just a guess. Nice big old map! Attention getting for sure.About 44x60 inches.

Vintage Germany MERCATOR K55 Folding Locking Pocket Knife Heinrich Kaufman Rare!
This Mercator pocket knife was manufactured in Solingen. Germany by Heinrich Kaufmann(running tiger symbol) The blade is approximately 3 1/2 inches long, the overall length is a little less than 8 inches. The blade will not fold unless the lockback button is depressed, a handy little feature. Blade snaps closed tightly. This knife is vintage and is in perfect working order.
