1616 Bertius Map- Hispania Petrus Bertius was a professor of mathematics and librarian at Leyden University in Holland. He is known for his miniature world atlas'Tabularum geographicarum contractarum' Although not an actual mapmaker himself. Bertius's text was embellished with maps from the foremost engravers of the late 1500's and early 1600's, including Pieter Van den Keere and Jocodus Hondius. Apart from the large'Atlas Universelle' and the small'Atlas Militaire' They allowed their maps to be'licensed' by other publishers, none more obviously so than in the many editions of'Methode abregee et facile pour apprendre la Geographie' dedicated to Mme Crozat. These went through many editions from about 1751 until well into the 1800's. The first issue in 1751 is quite scarce. This map of the Iberian peninsula is from a 1755 issue and shows both countries including the Balearic islands.
