Here is an authentic 161 year old Map of the New England or Eastern States! Maine. New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut are represented. This wonderful map is an original antique document and not a reproduction or copy. It showcases the railroads. Cities, towns and villages that made up the region in 1852. Unlike many maps of this era, the 1852 date is boldly printed along the lower left edge of the paper. The map was published prior to the Civil War by S. Augustus Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was one of a handful of 19th century cartographers who made his fortune producing accurate. Finely detailed maps and atlases. 1855 MAP and BOOK River Systems of Maine Illustrates Well's Water Power
I am selling this HAND COLORED MAP measuring 14" by 16" along with the book that has wear to the cover and a right slant to the book. The map was entered into the Southern District of New York by J. H. Colton& Co. See picture#2. There is age discolor inside the covers of the book and two labels from previous owner. THE BOOK HAS 21 ENGRAVED ILLUSTRATIONS FROM TOWNS ALL OVER MAINE. SOME SHOWN. Book measures 6" by 9" and has 526 pages, the last 75 pages have a slight stain getting a bit more as it gets to the end of the book. Only the last two of the 21 illustrations has any discolor, and that very faint.

It is a folding pocket map designed for travelers that is attached to and folds into a hard covered small book that measures 3 1/2 by 5 inches. One might have carried it in their breast pocket on a train or stage. There is a date of 1875 printed under the title block and Colton's name appears in several places on the map and the booklet. Size: The map measures approximately 14 by 17 inches for the entire page with a map image area of 12 1/2 by 15 1/2 and folds up tinto a 3 1/2 by 5 inch book. Condition: It is in Good condition with overall light tonal aging and original hand coloring as issued. There are multiple folds as issued wtih some minor browning that is less obvious on the actual map. Slight creasing along the edges. We have made some archival repairs on reverse reinforcing some of the fold edges that had short separations and a couple of the intersection folds that had small tears, so it has been nicely restored and very well preserved, not brittle and able to be unfolded and folded without issue, although care should be taken in handling any antique map. Vintage 1884 Plat Map Otter Tail County Minn Maine and Star Lake Twp
You are buying a page from a plat book. These plats are out of 1884 platbook- the book is falling apart so the maps are being sold individually- the map measures 12.5" x 14.5" the page size is 15" x 17" they are printed on both sides(2 townships per one page) so you would be bidding on one page but you would get two maps- this page is Maine and Star Lake townships. Villages include Maine. Monitor Falls and Star Lake. Lakes include Star, Dead, Pickerel, and Lost. As the map is from 1884, it shows many of the original white homesteaders. The plan shows some 566 housing lots, hotel sites, and parks, all on a peninsula at the outlet of the Kennebunk River and blessed with stellar views of the Atlantic. Text at the lower right extolls the areas accessibility and its scenic, recreational and other benefits. The whole is adorned by four pictorial vignettes, three of(real or idealized) vacation cottages and one of a steamer, perhaps inbound from Boston. The Sea Shore Company’s grand vision seems to have been largely unrealized, as the only element of the original plan visible on a modern map is Ocean Avenue paralleling the coastline. The map shows all of the state's counties; county seat towns; major cities and many small towns& villages; rivers& streams; and topographic detail. Most of the state's railroads and all of the Major railroads are shown in red. The map is printed on medium weight paper. You are bidding on a great original antique map of Maine. No. 10, from 1822, entitled"Geographical, Historical, and Statistical Map of Maine. As you can see from the inset, it says"J. Yeager Sculp. In researching this map, I learned that this map is from Carey& Lea's 1822"A Complete Historical Chronological and Geographical American Atlas. This map includes detailed information about all aspects of the state of Maine, as of 1822, including the 1820 census figure, showing the population of the entire state as 297,839! As you can see, the map is hand( colored, with a split centerfold(seamlessly glued) The outer dimensions of the page measure approximately 22" by 17 1/2. I am not a map expert, but it appears to be in very nice shape for its age- 192 years old- though it does have some toning and minor soiling, commensurate ... morewith age and use. That being said. This is still a nicely engraved and hand? colored map, which would look great on the walls of your home or vacation home. At present, the map is encased in, but not affixed to a protective plastic sleeve, though it could easily be removed for framing. Antique map from Colton's Atlas of America. 1857 Original 157 year old antique map from Colton's Atlas of America. The scarce advertising atlas with numerous full and half page advertisements in addition to the maps. We purchased the atlas as a partial one with some of the advertisements removed. We've included an image of the title page(not included as part of this auction) below, just for informational purposes. The overall size of the page is an impressive 18.5" x 16" The map was printed and then hand watercolored to show the various counties and other divisions. It provides a fascinating snapshot view of the area's geographical details at the time of publication 157 years ago. Condition is very good. And much nicer than the image would suggest. There is some modest age-darkening around the edges, otherwise the ... moremap is very clean. It's not as dark as the photo would suggest. There are a few light shadows lettering from the advertisement that was on its opposite page at one time. Barely visible. The reverse side is blank. See the image for condition details. But frankly, the image really doesn't do it any justice. We are/will be offering many of these maps on eBay. As well as some of the better advertisements. This wonderful map is an original antique document and not a reproduction or copy. It showcases the railroads. Cities, towns and villages that made up the region in 1844, and small sailing ships float merrily in the Atlantic. Unlike many maps of this era, the 1844 date is boldly printed along the lower left edge of the paper. It was published by Olney for Olney's School Geography. The map features bright hand-painted colors and old-fashioned lettering. It is easy to read and offers more detail than many maps of this vintage. This is a 1931 map of Maine. It is from a scarce Cram's Atlas. The map measures 11.25 X 15 inches. It is in near mint condition showing only minor handling. Buyer will get a printed out page size copy of the index page. This is superior to any"Certificate of Authenticity" which are normally printed out on the sellers own computer. We send this to prove map was extracted from this extremely rare atlas and to help with insurance appraisals as the map will surely increase in value. There are a few reasons this map is rare. And more difficult to obtain than a Cram's map of the late 1800's. In 1931 the United States and the World was in a catastrophic depression. Thus Cram's did not print as many, and very few people had the money to buy this atlas. Most surviving copies are the ones in Libraries and Universities.
