This listing is for an 1855 US Coast Survey Chart of Portland. Maine. It measures 25"x21.5" It's shrink wrapped, so I couldn't get a very good picture of it. It has fold creases. We bought this at an estate auction. The 80 year old gentleman who had it, collected art and old documents, and sold them in his gallery. He retired, and this has been in storage, for 10 or 20 years. He had a $175 price tag on it.

The map is too wide to fit on my scanner so the margins are partially cut off. Lots of details on these maps. See the closeups for examples. page measures 11-1/2" X 13-1/2" + + + There is usual darkening from age around the edges of the pages and some smudges from handling. But overall the condition is good considering the paper is 124 years old! Also. The margin where the page was bound in the book may have staple holes and staining from rust or glue. It is outside the map area and still good for framing. All of my maps are originals. I do not destroy good books. But rescue pages from damaged and ruined atlases. Here is a poor to fair condition United States Geologic Survey 15 Minute Series Topographical MAP of the SPENCER Quadrangle of the STATE OF MAINE. It is the 1928 edition. It DOES NOT HAVE the green overprint that shows forested areas. It shows the towns of T4R5. T5R6, Hobbstown, and part of Appleton, Jim Pond, Flagstaff, T5R7, T3R4, and Kirby This map is in poor to fair condition. There are many wrinkles and folds. And some small edge tears and stains. There is some tape residue along the margins, and a spots where small holes have worn through the folds. This map must have gone on a fishing trip or two! Original 1855 Coast Survey Wharf Map PORTLAND HARBOR Maine Cape Elizabeth Canal Genuine original antique lithographed pre-Civil War coast survey chart of Portland Harbor. Printed more than 157 years ago. This detailed fold-out map was published by the U.S. Coast Survey. A.D. Bache, Superintendent, in 1855. The image area measures a generous 27" x 20-1/2" and the map has a compass rose and dual mileage scale. It is drawn on a scale of 1:10.000 and offers a detailed depiction of Portland's inner harbor, including the peninsula, Back Cove, and part of Cape Elizabeth, now South Portland. Named places and features include the Cumberland& Oxford Canal. The light house at Stanford Ledge, Fort Preble, Fish Point, Turner's Island, Munjoy's Hill, Pomroy's Rock, and Portland Bridge. The map is dated 1855 and its full title ... moreis Chart of Portland Harbor. Maine, Showing the Wharf Line recommended by Commissioners appointed by the City Authorities. It shows about two dozen wharves on the Portland waterfront and names a handful of them. Including Robinson's, Central, Custom House, and Atlantic. It also shows soundings and bottom condition. And a text block at the lower right gives information on tides and currents. The scans below give a closer look at some of the detail: Condition: Like many government documents of the mid-19th century. This map is printed on a lightweight paper and there are breaks on a couple of the folds, mended with archival tape on the reverse side. There are also a few minor wrinkles and creases, some of which are visible in the scan below: The map is blank on the back. With no printing on the reverse side.
