This auction is for the extremely rare and 100% original and authentic antique map of the above region. Cartographer and year. This auction is only for the map that is pictured in this listing. I cannot stress enough how beautiful this map is up close compared to the photos that you see. Note that the photos do not do the map justice. This is truly an incredible map to behold! This is your chance to own a map that can be the centerpiece of your collection. Cartographer: Rigobert Bonne(1727-1795) was one of the most important cartographers of the late 18th century. In 1773 he succeeded Jacques Bellin as Royal Cartographer to France in the office of the Hydrographer at the Depôt de la Marine. Working in his official capacity Bonne compiled some of the most detailed and accurate maps of the period. Bonne's work represents an important ... morestep in the evolution of the cartographic ideology away from the decorative work of the 17th and early 18th century towards a more detail oriented and practical aesthetic. With regard to the rendering of terrain Bonne maps bear many stylistic similarities to those of his predecessor. Bellin. However, Bonne maps generally abandon such common 18th century decorative features such as hand coloring, elaborate decorative cartouches, and compass roses. While mostly focusing on coastal regions, the work of Bonne is highly regarded for its detail, historical importance, and overall aesthetic appeal. General Description: 1. Strikingly interesting and highly detailed map. Hand colored. The map depicts in great detail all of the geographical information known at the time the map was published. This is for the map you see in the pictures. This is a big map at 11 x 14-1/2 inches from edge to edge. The map is in great condition with no rips or marks in the map part and just slight toning to the page. This is a double or triple sided map and will include the states in the title. Some of the map pages are made together as they have a 2 page map on the inside and a single one on the back of each side of that. You will have to look carefully at the pictures as that is the maps you will get. I have a lot of other maps on from this atlas and will combine shipping. This atlas was already divided into the maps before I bought it so this is how you will get the maps. This is a very hard to find book and not a common atlas. Dimensions: 16x12in or 41x31cm. This is an original antique double sided page or leaf from the 1943 WWII Wartime published Encyclopedia Britannica Atlas. Please note that this is not a lot for two separate images but rather this is a page with two sides. Each with a map of it's own. There are some condition issues with this map: minor discoloration along the page edges and brittle paper. No major tears or creases or holes. It is in largely Good to Very Good condition. Given it's age. On one side is a very handsome map of Louisiana. With it's sprawling Mississippi River delta, and handsome Gulf Coast. It's various parishes are clearly labelled, as are the coastal and river area bayous and swamps. This features a very nice medium to large inset on the upper right corner. This features New Orleans, Baton Rouge and the surrounding ... morevicinity. This has a closer view of the area parishes, and a greater resolution for Lakes Maurepas and Pontchartrain. Immediately below the inset is a listing of the states then railways. On the other side is Vacationland itself: Maine. It's counties are lined and labelled nicely. And it's rocky Atlantic coast is dotted with numerous small towns. Equal in visual appeal to Louisiana on the other side, this is one of the nicer folios from the collection, though with very different options on either side. This is a delicate map that needs to be handled carefully and should be stored flat or framed under glass. It will be shipped flat and protected with stiff cardboard and labelled not to be bent. Map, Toll Roads, Illinois to Maine, AMOCO Oil publisher, late 1950s-early 1960s
A highway map of the Northeast USA from Illinois to Maine showing the toll roads(and. Of course, the AMOCO service stations along those roads) The map measures 9 X 32 inches and is in full color. The map includes a complete highway map of the area, showing the turnpikes from the Wisconsin-Illinois state line to Boston, running through Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, NewJersey, and Massachusetts. The logo for the service stations on the map is Standard, the logo for Standard Oil of Indiana's midwestern stations at the time. The reverse side has maps of the toll roads around Chicago, Buffalo, New York city, and the Maine and New Hampshire toll roads. Map is in excellent condition. There is some very minor discoloration due to age and a few bent corners but no tears, writing or repairs. The map is folded. I couldn't ... morefind a date, but UTOCO is still in use and that name was abandoned in 1961. There are also no interstate system marks in NY or PA.
