In eighteen double sheets, on the scale of nine inches to a mile. with all the streets in the metropolis and suburbs; all public buildings, railways and stations, all churches, chapels and board school. hand colored, 9 inch scale you are considering one map. The map shown, the paper is aprox 16 by 27 inches, with the printed map a bit smaller(as you can see in the pics) maps 13-18 area all on the most reast and west sides of Longdon. the paper is thin, and shows some edge wear, zoom in on the pics for good detail, very hard to find in this larger scale. i have many from this book available, it is not dated but comes from the late 1800's. This is an original antique 1657 engraving of London and Westminster I have done research and this is what I have found. It is a map by Braun& Hogenberg's. published in Janssen;s Illustorem Principumque Urbium Septentrionalium Europae. Cartographer Braun. Georg& Hogenberg, Frans. Tudor arms feature top right, with city arms top left with descriptive notes to the bottom left and right. The map is similar in details to the"copperplate map" the earliest printed map of London of which no complete copy survives.Merchant ships, cranes, mills,bull and bear baiting pits, the large tennis courts at Westminster and the stags in St. James are examples of London's business and leisure activities. Map is clean and complete, light rubbing to some folds, no loss, no staining, writing or foxing- a lovely example. Size: 80 cm x 95 cm approx. SCALE 2 inches to the mile. Details: Very rare. Not in Hyde. Although other years are. The map shows in red lines the proposed railways of the time. Obviously many were never built so a historically important map. Shows area from Plaistow. This is an old motoring map of London. Looks to be from the 1930s as it lists the Secretary as Sir Stenson Cooke and he died in 1942. You can tell it's old as it lists the AA's phone number as Whitehall 1200! Measures about 67cm x 63cm.

c1890s, GREENWICH, On 2 Large Segmented Maps, Stanford’s London School Board Map
A hugely detailed Edward Stanford map of the area(see scan of part of one of the sheets) The School Board maps were originally produced in 1877 for the School Board of London; they show the locations of permanent. Temporary and inspected voluntary schools plus possible new sites– all against the background of a very detailed street plan. The basis for the map is the six-inch to a mile map of London first published by Stanford’s in 1872, but this map has definitely been updated from then. The western map of Greenwich shows Tower Bridge(I think added in) which was built 1886 to 1894; the Greenwich foot tunnel, buitk 1899 to 1902 isn’t shown; I also believe the School Board was dispelled in 1904 so for these various reasons I’m estimating the date of these maps as 1890s. Condition is very good indeed. The paper maps have been dissected into ... moresegments and mounted on linen. As originally issued. The western sheet measures approx 72cm x 110cm and has 16 segments The map itself is evenly toned and remains clean and very fresh in appearance. One or two light marks, but minor. There is light tanning along the horizontal central fold. The linen showing through is slightly dust soiled in places, particularly the horizontal central fold, but overall very good and without holes. Top left corner tip has been bent over and broken. On the verso it’s lightly tanned but very clean and flat. The eastern sheet again measures approx 72cm x 110cm and has 16 segments. Plus a little tab at the top to take in a bit of Woolwich. The map itself is evenly toned and remains clean and very fresh in appearance. There is light tanning along the horizontal central fold. The linen showing through is slightly dust soiled in places, particularly the horizontal central fold, but overall very good and without holes. On the verso it’s lightly tanned but very clean and flat. Both sheets have marbled cards for the outside of the folded end segments with some light handling marks. They cover a pretty wide area extending N-S from East India Dock Road

It's thick textured paper pages remain untorn and without any seam splits. There is obvious discolouration on the front and reverse with some perimeter creasing and light fraying. Inside the pages are lightly discoloured but there are again. No splits. The folded booklet measures 12cm or almost 5 inches width and 25.5cm or 10 inches height. An index along the lower border identifies all streets in alphabetical order and references a numeric grid system on the map proper. Smith first issued this map in 1801. An antique map of London. England from an encyclopedia published in 1927. An original page, not a copy or reprint. The related encyclopedia pages are also included. A double page map, blank on the back. Very nice map for framing. Condition: Very Good. Has crease through middle where map was inserted in the book. Not all of the margin shows in the image. Actual margin is about 1 inch(2.5 cm) on all sides. Approximate dimensions: Page: 12.75 x 9.75 in/ 32 x 25 cm* Map: 10.75 x 8 in/ 27 x 20 cm 10B234 PAPER CONDITION Because most of the prints and advertisements were once in books or magazines. They all have at least a small bit of wear. Although there are differences in the amount of wear, items and prints are worthy of framing or another type of display. Items of interest that are in less than“good” condition are sometimes offered in small ... morelots for scrapbookers, collage artists, etc. Paper items may have rough edges and/or staple holes on one margin from being bound in a book or magazine. Depending on the item and the size of the margin, the holes and/or raw edge has been left as is or trimmed. Excellent: In unusually good condition. With minimal signs of handling. Any dirt is only visible upon close examination(this mostly pertains to front or back covers) Good: Flaws are more apparent than with items in Very Good condition. But item is still suitable for framing or casual display. May also have more obvious wrinkles, creases or moisture or other staining along the edges or in margin areas which would be covered by a frame.
