It comes mounted on a spring roller. With a wood dowel at the end. There are three layers to the map. These include a Texas map. A United States map, and a World map. This map shows wear from general classroom use. And it also has some other issues. On the United States map, there is a small rip in the center where the pull string is located. World War 1 WW1 Location Map - Meuse-Argonne Offensive - General Pershing
Up for sale is a Vintage World War 1 Location Map- Meuse-Argonne Offensive- WW1 France Battle. This is an original period piece. I have tried to show the watermark in the paper to prove it's age. The map is printed on"Housatonic Bond" paper which dates back to the WW1 period. This paper was made by the B.D. Rising Paper Company. A Google search will give you a few mentions of this paper company and paper so you can verify date of the document. There is a red pencil marking directing the troops to the city of Longeville in France where I expect they where to establish a position. Mause-Argonne Offensive- Battle of Argonne Forest On August 30. 1918, the supreme commander of Allied forces, Marshal Ferdinand Foch, arrived at the headquarters of General John J. Pershing's 1st US Army. Foch ordered Pershing to effectively shelve ... morea planned offensive against the St. Mihiel salient as he wished to use the American troops piecemeal to support a British offensive to the north. Outraged, Pershing refused to let his command be broken apart and argued in favor of moving forward wit the assault on St. Mihiel. Ultimately, the two came to a compromise. Pershing would be permitted to attack St. Mihiel but was required to be in position for an offensive in the Argonne Valley by mid-September. This required Pershing to fight a major battle. And then shift approximately 400,000 men sixty miles all within the span of ten days. Stepping off on September 12, Pershing won a swift victory at St. Mihiel and began moving his troops to the Argonne. Coordinated by Colonel George C. Marshall, this movement was completed in time to commence the Meuse-Argonne Offensive on September 26. Unlike the flat terrain of St. Mihiel. The Argonne was a valley flanked by thick forest to one side and the Meuse River on the other. This terrain provided an excellent defensive position for five divisions from General Georg von der Marwitz's Fifth Army. Up for bid is a WAR MAP compiled November 1941 from the United States radio station WLS which is still located in Chicago. IL. The map shows the regions of German Occupation and also areas controlled by the allies. The map is two sided with one side showing Europe and the Soviet Republic in Asia while the opposite side shows the World, Air Distance in Europe, A chart showing Correct Speeling& Pronunciation of Foreign Names in the news. The backside also has photographs of two news editors(Julian Bentley and Ervin Lewis) who are covering the war and work for the station. The map is in good condition with some wear(creases, some light stains, etc. Anyone interested in the early history of the World War II would likely find this map of interest. This unique paper pocket folder has a US map. World map and a guide to ribbon identification. It measures about 7" x 5-1/2" when closed and 22x14" when opened. This folder is in good condition with a couple of very minor tears along the folds. Great piece of history! We sell all items as is. As found and try to describe them to the best of our abilities. They are: a beautiful Anchor Hocking white translucent-look plate- 7 1/4" A smaller plate, a map and guide made like a regualr street map- some spotting but no rips, a Futurama brochure, a GM brochure, a Dinoland brochure and a free gallon of gas coupona 46 Great Drinks booklet, and a flash card set with 27 postcard-sized cards in the original box.
