Chicago and New York, 1923, 16 mo.4" x 6 1/2"38 pages of text giving latest official census. Air service landing fields, post offices, counties. County seats, railroads and electric lines including 16 pages of advertisements. Soft boards. The map is 28" x 21. folded down to 3 1/2" x 6. It is double faced. The front map is a standard map of Kansas with 22 different railroads on it. It is light orange and black with dark orange and red accents. The map on the reverse is the main highway map of Kansas. It is white with grey county and city markings and lettering and the highways are heavy dark green and are identified with matching green numbers. Map has a small tear where it is attached to the booklet; ... moreotherwise it is very good. The booklet has a new beige spine that was applied over an earlier scotch tape repair. Tape was removed. The interior hinges, both front and rear have been reinforced with white paper tape; otherwise it is very good. Both the booklet and the maps are good and a tremendous 90 year-old piece of history of the state of Kansas. A great gift for a history buff.

Samuel Augustus Mitchell was born in Bristol. Connecticut on March 20, 1792. His father emigrated from Scotland in 1773. While little is know about his early schooling, it is know that Mitchell found the quality of early geography text books to be lacking, and determined that he would write and publish better works. This decision led him to relocate to Philadelphia in 1829 or 1830, which was then the center of commercial publishing in America. Mitchells first cartographic work was the re-issue of Anthony Finleys New American Atlas in 1831. A work first issued by Finley in 1826, in response to Henry Schenk Tanners monumental work of the same title, issued in serial format from 1818 to 1822 and as a complete work from 1823 onward. While the map content in Mitchells edition of the New American Atlas are same as Finleys edition, each map has been significantly improved and revised, primarily with the addition of new owns and roads. the parents used this on their first vacation ever cause of the war. Took it in 1947. ask any questions.and i can take any number of pics of the item listed.naturally the item sells as is.seems to me in lieu of questions.
