This auction is for the map of North America from the Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas of the World. By Prof. A.Guyot. This map is in very nice condition given its age. It is in its original unrestored condition. The colors(all hand colored) are still very vibrant and all of the map is still very readable. There are some very small stains but nothing that detracts from the map. The middle seam is completely but of course show some wear. There are a few small tears along the outside of the map but none are more than a half inch and have not made it to the map. I have tried to highlight all the issues in the pictures. This auction is for the map of the world in the globular view from the Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas of the World. By Prof. A.Guyot. This map is in very nice condition given its age. It is in its original unrestored condition. The colors(all hand colored) are still very vibrant and all of the map is still very readable. Please notice from the picture there is a tear that extends from the edge onto the border. There is one other tear but it is very small and does not extend into the map. 1864 Maps 1864 Map of Sweden and Norway from Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas For sale is an antique map of Sweden and Norway from Johnson’s New Illustrated(Steel Plate) Family Atlas. Published in 1864. These maps are some of the most colorful and accurate maps produced in the 1860's. The Johnson maps are characterized by hand coloring in red and green and distinctive borders, including iron scrollwork and a Celtic design. At the time Sweden and Norway were ruled by the same ruler. Following the Treaty of Kiel and the declaration of Norwegian independence from their previous union with Denmark. A brief war with Sweden resulted in the Convention of Moss on 14 August and the subsequent Norwegian constitutional revision of 4 November 1814. On the same day, the Storting elected Charles XIII of Sweden as King of Norway. The events ... moreof 1814 resulted in a union of Sweden and Norway. Two sovereign states that had the same King, foreign policies, and diplomatic representations. Each had its own independent laws, legislature, cabinet, administration, church, armed forces, and currency. However, the King mostly resided in Stockholm, Swedes were initially viceroys in Norway, and foreign policy was conducted by the king through the Swedish foreign ministry in Stockholm. Later in the 19th century, a union cabinet consisting of ministers from both countries was called to discuss matters of foreign policy. The photos are the actual photos of the item for sale. It has two insets. One of the Ganges region and the other of Singapore Island. The sheet measures27 inches wide by 18 inches tall with clear plate mark, the image are is about 23 inches wide by about 17 inches tall. There is an ornate border. Publication line showing date 1867 is just below the Ganges inset. Unrelated text on back. Condition is pretty good for its age. Some marginal pin holes and discoloration. Nice Historical Reference* CONDITION: Very good condition. very minimal wear/ aging. I found only(2) of the 2-page spreads(NC/SC and IN) has a partial tear along the fold line, and a 3" tear on one page. not musty, minimal foxing. cover has some dulling and spotting on right side as seen. No'shifting' or looseness. Front end paper(s) are missing and American Atlas illustration page is the first page in the book. Pictures are representative.
