The coverage area extends from the Perdido River to Cape Sable and Elliott's Key. And there is excellent detail throughout. The map shows the progress of the surveys conducted under the direction of Surveyor General John Wescott in St. Augustine. Wescott is also known as the"Father of the Intracoastal Waterway" and a founder of the St. Johns Railroad that connects St. Augustine to the St. Johns River. The map locates the site of the Battle of Okeechobee. One of the major battles of the Second Seminole War, the Arredondo Grant, Forbes Purchase, Cedar Keys, Tampa Bay, Lake Kissimmee, Ellicott's Monument, and Cape Canaveral. It labels numerous ... moreinlets, military forts, depots, Indian villages, and islands and landings in the Everglades. It delineates the line of the 20-mile Indian Reserve crossing the peninsula north of Lake Istokpoga.
