Antique marble and alabaster floor lamp. An amazing piece and rare to find. This is not a reproduction. Originally purchased in Florence. Italy in the 1940's and shipped to a wealthy socialite in New York. From the Art Nouveau era circa 1918. The 6' 2" floor lamp was puported to have been owned by a fashion industry baroness. The entire piece is hand carved and polished by artisans no longer trained in this craft. Great attention to the baby pink folds in the alabaster dress with etching to the hem. Fine detail to the marble strands of hair in the goddess. The gray and white mottled marble globe measures 16" in diameter and splits into 2 halves. Electrifies with a regular 40 or 75 watt bulb. The ring around the globe is brass. The other metal is not. It measures a total of about 33" tall. It is in vintage. Obviously used and well loved condition. The outer surface of the globe has some stains from finger prints and smears. The outer surface also has some scuff type damage where the outer layer has worn through(pictured) The metal support bar directly under the globe has small rust spots. VTG Rand McNally Terrestrial Floor Globe on Wooden 3 Legged Stand NICE
This is a 12" globe(measured 38" all the way around the equator and then divided by pi 3.1416) It has a brass axis around it so it spins inside the wooden stand. The wooden stand is 30" tall and has 3 legs. The stand and the globe are in very good condition. The wood has minor vintage wear and I really see no wear to the globe. The stand could be shined up very nicely with some Old English oil. I believe it is walnut or mahogany. I'm guessing the globe is from the 1960s but I haven't done that much research. This one has several different historic ships scattered over the globe. The stand comes apart in three pieces which has come in very handy for shipping as you can imagine it will be in a pretty big box! It sits securely on its base. And you can't just lift it off. The base I believe is wrought iron. Or a lighter metal. It also is in pretty nice shape, but does have a bit of the black paint peeling off, and a couple areas of oxidation. These can easily be remedied with some touch up paint, and a metal protectant. I've used this lamp for years. And the electrical connections seem fine. I've never seen it flicker or shows signs of a short. I'm not exactly sure of its age. This vintage world globe is comprised of numerous gemstones indigenous to each country in which they are mined. The majority of the globe is a deep blue color made of lapis lazuli which represent the world oceans. There is mother of pearl. Tiger's eye, turquoise, abalone, jasper, jade, amethyst, quartz, marble which are only a few of the gemstones. These high grade gemstones are genuine and hand cut to precisely fit together while the lapis is only approximately 15% resin reconstituted unlike the less expensive versions now offered. The longitude and latitude lines are done with gold ribbon while the entire globe's smooth surface was professionally sealed with 10 coats of clear acrylic. The metal stand is solid brass in a beautiful shiny gold color with four decorative legs(more expensive than the three legged version of today) with a true working compass sitting below the globe.
