You are buying a Cram's Unrivaled Terrestrial Globe. It is a no.4. It is 12 inches in diameter and 16 inches tall. Please view all pictures as they are part of my description. It dates post 1931(Manchoukuo. Burma) and pre 1947(No Pakistan, Israel, Lebanon) Italian Somalialand and British Somailialand are there and Ethiopia is not art of Italian Somalialand. French Indochina, Siam and Sumatra are present. There is several nicks and scratches in the paper covering(pics) A few panels are coming loose at the top(pics) There is paint missing from the base(pic) There is no big dents. It has a great patina. 1939 Crams Light Up Cram's 10 1/2" Terrestrial Globe. Cherry Wood Base, WW2. I know this is 1939 because Germany Annexed the Czech Republic in 1939. And Slovakia became independent. In 1940, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania were annexed by Russia, and they are still on the map. This is seen in the 2nd picture. The light fixture inside was replaced because it was a size bulb that no longer exists. And works fine. The original plug was replaced with a period plug(40's or 50's) because the old plug was dangerous(4th last picture) The cord is worn(3rd last picture) but the insulation is fine and not dangerous. The globe stands appr. 15.5" High. For the Collector. This is a wonderful piece of history, showing the world on the brink of World War II. 100% I am semi-retired and purchase Items at estate sales. This globe is very unique i think you will agree. First off.It has no brand of any kind.I have never seen that before. Korea is not split yet(1945) i have no idea what is going on with germany on this globe. And Iran and Saudia Arabia appear on it. It seem to be made of some kind of metal.if u look at the last picture of the bottom of the globe,you can see about 3 layers and what feel like metal.but i may be wrong.The colors look extraordinary as well as the"finish" it has on it. A WW2 Illuminated Glass Globe c1939 by the George F. Cram Co. An attractive and early illuminated glass globe. Glass globes in this period are fairly rare due to their fragile nature and many have not withstood the rigors of time. Creating a glass world involved crafting a hand blown glass orb with each map gore precisely applied by hand. A time inclusive and skilled craft. This illuminated globe is from the Unrivaled Series of Cram globes. A series that included some of Crams finest globes, including the Serpent Crams, the Silver ocean Crams, and the Rockefeller Crams. This model incorporates the fleur de lis into the mount. The symbol was often used on a compass rose to mark the north direction and is pointed north in this application. This is a seriously stunning vintage CRAMS 16" political terrestrial illuminated globe. It's an amazing color and would look great in any mid century design. Perfect for an office or home. These are so hard to find. Especially in this color. It has a little bit of peeling at the seams, and a few scuffs on the stand, but in overall good condition for its age, and it works! Globe manufacturers experimented with many designs and materials in an effort to make their globe more aesthetically pleasing as well as educational. The George F. This rather fragile colored(sensitive to handling) silver oceans globe is made more appealing by the contrasting black meridian and metal base, highlighted also, in silver. Great addition to a collection. This Crams globe sits in metal cradle which has scales to calculate flight mileage and time for both prop and jet planes. Nice. Vivid colors on globe but has some scuffs and scrapes from usage. I tried to point out in photo one place on cradle that has been dented.but the globe still sits correctly in it and is able to turn. Not sure of date but still has USSR, and Kampuchea, as well as a few other nations that have changed names. 12" globe.
