Up for auction is a Konseal Apparatus. A Machine for filling and sealing KONSEALS(rice flour capsules) J. M. Grosvenor& Co. Boston, Mass. This unit was used for filling and sealing konseals(rice flour capsules often referred to as cachets) that were easier for children to swallow their medicines. The set comes in a wood finger jointed box with a brass label on top and the original brass latch for closing in working order. The inside has a wood tray that holds 3 nickeled funnels for pouring the powder into the Konseals; two thimbles for compressors which are used to compress the powder into a small Konseal. The Konseal apparatus consists of 3 nickeled plates hinged together(bed plate, cover plate and shield plate) as described in the booklet, a felt pad roller for moistening the edges of the Konseals before sealing. There is an 8 page ... morebooklet describing the use of the unit. There are 4 envelopes with labels inside on How to Take Konseals. Also another booklet with 16 pages with instructions. There are 2 loose labels, J. M. Grosvenor& Co. 170 Essex Street Salem, Mass and Boston, Mass. There is a wood mixer stick. There is no label on the inside of the lid. Boston, c.1750 The rarest of all lowboys and perhaps most beautiful. Are the Japanned lowboys and highboys that came out of Boston in the mid 18th century. Several of the major museums in the country have examples of this school and this piece was deaccessioned from the museum of the City of New York. Japanning is very fragile, and this piece probably flaked so badly, its former owner had it stripped and mahoganized. The top also was probably flaking and warping badly, so a new top was installed. This was done a long time ago so a fine, pleasing craquelature developed over ... morethe case and legs’ mahoganized surface. This piece is not for the purist, but the case itself, all drawers, legs, and brasses are original including its magnificent shell, with much of its original gold leaf, which we have refreshed. The legs are magnificently shaped, the split drawers under the top are a desirable feature, as this is generally one drawer, and the shell is the piece de resistance. This is a Paine twin cannonball bed with superb scrolled turnings on each post. It comes complete with foundation(hand tied) and mattress both in excellent condition. Also included are the original mahogony siderails. This comes out of an estate that had lots of excellent period pieces. I am guessing this bed was made in the 1920's. Regretfiully. This is a very old violin(4/4) recently found in an estate while on a trip to Boston. The violin has an old paper label(clearly shown) And may have other markings as well.hard to tell. The flaming is outstanding. I was told that this dates from the 19th century(maybe older! Probably German or French. Please view the photos. The condition can be seen in the detailed photos. ANTIQUE 1880’s PATENT ORNATE VICTORIAN TOILET PAPER HOLDER- BOSTON MA Welcome! Thank you for your interest in previewing this antique. Ornate, Victorian, bathroom or outhouse toilet paper holder. FYI, another, just like this one, was also sold here on Ebay which had the embossed inscription“U.C. P. Co. Boston, Mass. Pat’d July 17, 1877 and Sept. 25, 1883” which appeared to be under the tear off bar according to the picture. This one does not show this embossed inscription but it could be hidden by its layers of paint. It appears this one was painted twice, one layer of flat black, then another layer of gloss black on top. In areas where the black paint is missing there is a brass color which may be the original color of the piece. The sides have ornate star designs and made of cast iron. The middle portion is of sheet metal. It’s approx 7 ... more¼” in length counting the mounting brackets and approx 5 ½” width and with a height(along the sides) of about 4 1/8” There are two holes for mounting screws. The bail flips up and down for paper replacement and in the down position holds the paper down so it can be torn. The white material inside of the holder feels like candle wax so it could be removed. This piece is in the exact condition as when I purchased it. I’ll leave it up to the buyer as to whether it should be left“as is” or restored. This piece would be a very interesting, functional, conversation piece for the older home or outhouse. The piece is in excellent working condition. Please check the images. Well there you have it. They have cast iron posts base that keeps it upright in fireplace, magnet sticks to these posts, the dogs are not magnetic, they may be another alloy, maybe spelter, I am not an expert, but they are very cool. They look like Greenblatt Studio Arcade Manufacturing dogs from Boston MA, cira 1928. No chips or cracks. I have had these for a while, I painted them black myself(silly me I guess) I used rustoleum flat black paint to match my decor at the time. I don't believe they have a makers mark, but again, I did paint them. I purchased them from an antique dealer in New Hampshire about 20 years ago, not far from Boston. They are 17 inches tall. Famine and wherever poor sanitation was to be found. In America. A typhus epidemic killed the son of Franklin Pierce, in Concord, New Hampshire in 1843 and struck in Philadelphia in 1837. Several epidemics occurred in Baltimore. Memphis and Washington DC between 1865 and 1873. Typhus fever was also a significant killer during the US Civil War, although typhoid fever was the more prevalent cause of US Civil War"camp fever. Dr. Jabez Baxter Upham(1820– 1902) ... morestudied medicine at the medical schools of Dartmouth. Bowdoin, University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard, graduating from the latter in 1847. He practiced medicine in Boston until the outbreak of the Civil War. He then enlisted to serve through the war as surgeon major under General Burnside. During the Civil War he experienced first hand the‘camp fever’ which decimated the troops. After the war he resumed practice in Boston serving among other positions as visiting physician to the brand new Boston City Hospital. In 1880 he went to New York City and formed a co-partnership with Austin Corbin in the Corbin banking company. At one time Dr. Upham was president of the Harvard Musical Association. Handel and Haydn Society of Boston, and was instrumental in securing the great organ which long stood in the great music hall of Boston. He was once a delegate to the International Medical Congress. Description: This auction is for an antique George W. Shiebler& Co. NY. Sterling silver.925 souvenir spoon of the 1773 Boston Tea Party in the Boston Mass harbor. The spoon handle decor is that of the Boston elm Liberty Tree. The bowl has a beautiful, quite detailed scene of the 1773 Boston Tea party raid in the harbor, with men dressed as Indians in the boats, men cheering them on at the dock. Crates of tea appear to be falling from the ship, one crate is seen splashing into the water. The back of the spoon is marked Sterling PAT, the winged S for the Shiebler mark is present, there are two engraved names that appear to read Rand& Crane. The spoon measures approximately 5 7/8 inches long. The spoon weighs approximately 1.250 ozt. The spoon is in good condition; no repairs. For your consideration is an extremely rare and rather large 1928– 1929 side logo and bottom marked 7” tall by 7 7/8” wide(from the tip of the spout across to the opposite side of the handle) 16 oz. silver plate coffee pot/ teapot made for the Copley Plaza Hotel that was(and still is today) located in Boston. Massachusetts. If you collection historic Boston artifacts or hotel silver items, you might want to consider this rarity for your collection. Historically. The Copley Plaza Hotel was officially opened on August 19th, 1912 and was built in the famous“Copley Square” of downtown Boston at 138 St. James Street. The hotel’s sister hotel, the Plaza in New York City, was also designed by the same architect, Henry Hardenbergh. Hardenberh also designed other landmark hotels, such as the Waldorf Astoria in New York City and the Williard Hotel ... morein Washington. But in early years of the hotel, it’s connection with its sister hotel in New York, the Plaza, was most evident in the same logo both hotels shared and also were known as being two of the most lavish hotels in all of the United States. The most impressive 7-story 500-room hotel was named in honor of early famous Boston painter. John Singleton Copley. It cost a then staggering $5.5 million dollars to construct, but almost no expense was spared in its construction and amenities provided to the guest.
