On the front of the map in red is THE SAVOY. Which was a world famous jazz club in Boston. I assume this map was given out by them as a promotion. The map includes a list of places of general interest. Along with directions and Routes of historical trips one could take from Boston. One side of the map is the city, and the other side is Greater Boston with principal automobile routes. When open, the map measures app. 17" wide by 13.75" inches tall. When folded it is 3.5" across by 5.5" tall. There is no date on this map. I am guessing the 1920's based on the style and the fonts. I must apologize for its rough condition. The cover and back pages are water or even maybe coffee stained and there is tanning of most pages. A small tear or two is/are evident. You get the idea. The Boston Patriot was published just prior to the beginning of the War of 1812, but includes some interesting military articles, including a long article about Maj. Gen. Henry Dearborn, Commander in Chief of the Northern Army(during the Revolutionary War) and a recruiting ad. The papers are in good condition. The first item in this auction is a small 4 ½ by 8 ¼ inch folding pocket map ... moretitled, Birds Eye View of Boston” It was printed by Edward O. Robinson and on one side are advertisements for the United States Hotel, located in Boston. They advertise that they are near the Old Colony and Fall River Lines, and only three blocks away from the railroad station. On the other side is a colorful lithograph map of Boston and the surrounding towns. Copyrighted in 1887, this Boston Pocket Map was“For Sale by all Newsmen” for $0.10. The next antique ephemera item in this auction measures 3 ¾ by 5 ¼ inches and was given by“The Volunteer Refreshment Saloon” of Philadelphia. On one side is a lithograph by W. Boell, which depicts soldiers gathered around the large saloon. There are advertisements for hot coffee and refreshments for Union volunteers. The second lithograph depicts the hospital found at the foot of Washington Street, Philadelphia. There is a long line of Union soldiers at the front door. On the inside of this folded cardboard pamphlet is a list of the Union Volunteer Refreshment Committee members along with a very interesting description of the beginnings of this Philadelphia Refreshment Committee. Printed on nice period paper as issued which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. Printed on back as issued with an explanation of the symbols used. 1898 League of American Wheelmen Road Map of Boston District
This is a 1898 edition of the League Of American Wheelmen" Map of the Boston District" It was published by the Geo. H. Walker& Company of Boston. It measures 35 1/2" wide a 27" high. It is in very nice condition and illustrates all bicycle route in the Boston District. It may have never been used. It was found folded and only unfolded for taking photos. The paper is in very good shape and not brittle. I hope I can fold it back as neatly as I found it. Overall a very nice example High bid pays postage.

Vintage World Freight Line Map D. C. Andrews Co. New York Boston 19??
A great old World freight line route map done for the D. C. Andrews& Co. in the early 1900s by the C. S. Hammond Co. of N.Y. Measures 28” x 24” and also includes an inset of the“Political Map of Europe” of that time. Andrews had locations both in New York City and Boston. Cannot find any definite date that this was published on this piece. Company was founded in 1884 and last date I can find for them on the internet was in Boston in 1922. They called themselves– Foreign Freight Forwarders-Custom Brokers-Freight Contractors. The was title Map of the World on Mercator's Projections" with Colonial Possessions and also offers: Steamship routes via the Panama Canal and other ways. Railroad through routes, submarine cable lines, and wireless telegraph stations. You will see many flags around the outer edge of countries served by one ... moreor more of the above listed. Water stains and couple very tiny tears along edge only. Metal pull grip along bottom shows some loosening. Most likely hung on a wall in one of their offices at one time. Bellin provided a huge number of maps for L'Abbe Prevost's'Histoire Generale des Voyages' A 25 volume plus work describing the discoveries, journeys and settlements of seventeenth and early eighteenth century European powers. Many of these maps were issued in Dutch and German as well as French. This map of the colonial city of Boston comes from a 1757 French edition of"Histoire. The city is very much confined to the peninsula within the harbour with Charlestown to the north west. There is a legend with sixteen main points of interest including batteries of cannon and religious buildings. This is an essential map for collectors of the early colonial urban Americana.
