1788 Bonne Map- Canada Rigobert Bonne was the fortunate successor to J.N. Bellin as the official hydrographer/chartmaker to the French navy and. Like his predecessor, used the position for furtherance of his private atlas publications. Both Raynal's'Atlas de toutes les parties connues du Monde' of 1780-81 and the'Atlas Encyclopaedique' of 1787-88 owe much to the massive map resources of the French naval ministry. This map is from'Atlas Encyclopaedique' This early map shows Canada as it was just after the fall of New France. Bonne has corrected the Bellin error of fictitious islands of Lake Superior and is probably the most accurate of its time. Canada is simply present day Ontario and Quebec a different colony from the other British holdings in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Vintage Weber Costello Chicago ILL Pull Down School Map USA Bonne's Projection
Came out of an old estate farm house. A USA pull down school map. Decent condition, some wrinkles and a few stains mainly on back side, but no damage or rips do I find. Stamped WC Time Tested School Supplies. From Weber Costello of Chicago Heights, ILL. Size is 48" long plus the white ends, 40" wide, and the poles are 48" and top is 44" I think this was from late 1940's era. The lady who had it was a country school teacher. Wonderful fine detail.Not sure what these are, perhaps ornamental in nature. Could be used on a frame that holds a print of St Anne or on the cover of a book about her.
