Original historic hydrographic chart or map for maritime navigation. Large format. 28 inch wide by 26 inch high, on heavy paper. Issued by U.S. Navy, originally published 1897, this copy is the 13 and dated 1941. Wet stamp in lower right corner indicates a date of 1965. Shows depths of water(soundings) in fathoms, compass bearings, lighthouses, etc. annotations are all in English. This map shows four insets: a) Highborn Cut, b) Ragged Island Harbor, c) Wax Cay Cut, and(d) Golding Cay Entrance. Scale of each inset varies from about 1:10,000 to 1:40,000. Has been folded neatly in half, with a clean crease across the vertical centerline. Will be shipped rolled into a tube, so no additional creases. Lovely vintage fonts and typography; makes an excellent item for framing and display.

Carey first published the General Atlas in 1796 with several updates through the early 19th century. But it wasn’t until the 1814 edition that the plates went through a major revision. This revision included updates based upon the discoveries of Lewis& Clark, and features many important engravings west of the Appalachian mountains including Tennessee. Mississippi Territory. Scarce 1951 Pictorial Map Poster "The Islands of the Bahamas" Coins Pirates
Here is a seldom seen Pictorial Map Poster entitled" The Islands of the Bahamas" It was produced in 1951 and published by a" G.A. Miami" The designer and illustrator is George Annand. There is not much other administrative information on the map. The colors on this map are gorgeous. With the oceans in a sharp pea green. The map is almost square at 22" x 20" The poster shows the islands of the Bahamas just off the east coast of Southern Florida. It also has 2 smaller insert maps of New Providence Island on which is located the capital city of Nassau and a street map of the city of Nassau. The map also features old British coins. Prirates, birds, ships, and other island motiffs pertinent to this part of the world. The map is printed on the heaviest stock paper I have ever seen, just shy of cardboard. This map is ... morenot in the best of condition- please read the Description Section. However, the structural interity of the poster is still intact, probably because of the paper's weight. I list this map because of its scarcity. In 15 years on ebay, looking for maps essentially everyday, I have only seen this map once before; this is it. If pressed and properly framed, much of its shortcomings would be neutralized, and the result would be beautiful pictorial map already over 60 years old. I tried to photograph the map to show all of its issues. Taken as a whole, it is still an interesting, hard to find map. No international bidders- except Canada- please. Having worked as a school teacher, Mitchell was frustrated with the low quality and inaccuracy of school texts of the period. His first maps were an attempt to rectify this problem. In the next 20 years Mitchell would become the most prominent American map publisher of the mid-19th century. Mitchell worked with prominent engravers J. H. Young, H. S. Tanner, and H. N. Burroughs before attaining the full copyright on his maps in 1847.
