The base maps are the same but the color wash version shows more railway development and is probably 10 years later than the other. Printer to the Kings most excellent Maiestie, c1599-1615. A truly fascinating and original piece. Albeit a fragment of the original work. The Bible remains a survivor; although it is very worn and is in fact lacking large portions of text. Bound in its original leather boards. Still with remaisn of the original clasp system. Bible measures roughly 9.5 x 8 inches. The interior is lacking a large portions of text throughout. Retaining a good amount of the Old Testament, and the Tables, lacking the NT altogether. The text is in English with Latin font, illustrated with maps, woodcuts in text, as well as with various initials and devices. The interior is very worn, ... morewith all of the pages ragged and detached, many with loss of text. Some instances of soiling and browning throughout as well, but nothing major. There are scattered signatures, with the names James and Petter Larthwaite. Retains a large portion of the Whole Booke of Psalmes at the rear, probably also a late 1500s imprint. It is almost certainly a 16th century edition. With the all-important Breeches page intact on Genesis 3:7. No colophon or titles are present, however. The contents comprise part only of the Old Testament and the Tables. As follows: Leaves 2-17, 20-28, 32-36, 44-49, 85-87, 90-91, 93-98, 106-119, 121-125, 127-136(incorrectly numbered 126) 168-170, 172, 176, and 178. Thus ends the first portion, then pagination resets for the Prophets: 43-48, 50-52, 54-55, 57,60, 62(incorrectly numbered 92) 65, 67-71, 74-77, 85-94, 96-101, 103-115, 118-119, 123-125, 131(incorrectly numbered 121) Thus ends Prophets, then there are the un-numbered Tables, which retain the first 10 leaves. There is no New Testament. Also retains the Whole Book of Psalmes, also no titles: pp1-48, 55-71, 77-82. Lacking all after 82. This is a truly historical find. And is a treasure that only few

Images are bright and clear; a few marks and soft creasing but minor impact. Some soiling in margins and along centrefold. Verso blank except for the map title. 1901. Citizen’s Atlas. It measures 31cm x 42cm approx. Excluding margins. Horizontal centrefold as published. Printed area is clean and fresh BUT the margins have edge damage. Offered here is an antique School Atlas; A Series of Maps To An Abridgment Of The History of the United States. Designed For Schools, by Emma Willard. White, Gallaher, and White, New York, 1831,VERY early edition of this title, contains eight hand colored maps, 3 double page maps and 5 single page maps. In very nice condition- the front cover top front corner has a darkened area- looks like the book was covered by another and the corner stuck out and got dirty. Bumps at the corners of the printed covers and some surface paper distress on the bottom have of the spine. This is a NICE book of about 7 1/4" X 9 3/4" Faded name at the top right. I searched the internet and could only find one of of this particular title by Emma Willard. There are other similar books but not this one. At the age of twenty she took a job as an assistant ... moreat the academy in Westfield. Massechussets and that summer she went to Middlebury, Vermont to become the principle of the female academy there. It was here that she met Dr. John Willard, a local physician and supporter of female education. They were married on August 10, 1809, when Emma was twenty-two years old and John was fifty. When she became aquainted with a nephew of Dr. Willard’s. Who stayed in their home while he attended Middlebury College, she also became aquainted with his books. It was then that she truly began to realize the intellectual deprivation that was the lot of American women and took to heart the vast differences in educational opportunites open to men and to women. She proceeded to study her nephew’s textbooks and soon mastered such subjects as geomety and philosophy, preparing herself for a larger work. In 1814. When Dr. Willard suffered financial losses, Emma opened a boarding school in her own home. She called the school the Middlebury Female Seminary, and here she intended to remedy some of the educational disadvantages of young women. Since she was not allowed to attend classes at Middlebury College, she taught herself mathematics and physical science

Via the Congo river, hoping to acquire more territory and perhaps even Equatoria. After immense hardships and great loss of life, Stanley met Emin in 1888, discovered the Ruwenzori Range and Lake Edward, and emerged from the interior with Emin and his surviving followers at the end of 1890. But this expedition tarnished Stanley's name because of the conduct of the other Europeans: British gentlemen and army officers. An army major was shot by a carrier, after behaving with extreme cruelty. James Jameson, heir to an Irish whiskey manufacturer, bought an eleven-year old girl and offered her to cannibals to document and sketch how she was cooked and eaten.
