ANTIQUE(1851 patent) Brass Fire Dept. or Railroad Lantern Fixed Globe/Bell Bottom D. J SANGSTERS THE BROOKLYN FLINT GLASS Co. Up for Auction is this very nice Brass Firemans or Railroad Lantern. My Dad was a collector of railroad lanterns back in the 1960-70's(this was his) But I've seen this type lantern listed as a firemans. I'm not a collector, so I'm listing it as either one or both. I'll let the experts decide. It is marked by three manufacturers. I would say SANGSTERS made the lantern and THE BROOKLYN FLINT GLASS Co. made the globe that is in excellent condition. Also the wick wheel is marked E MILLER MERIDEN CON. I'm not sure if they made the burner and fountain. Or just the burner. Condition: Some typical dings or dents. One of the vertical cage wires is broken at the very top. Directly under the rivet type ... morehead. Looks like some vertical solder repair on the font. On top were the horizontal hinge pin for the handle ring is, there is a dent and some tearing in the brass. I believe all these things except the broken cage wire are in the pics. I gave you my best observations and hope it is accurate. We are selling the lantern as is, so please look at all 12 pictures. All questions will be promptly answered. Total height is 18" and the base is 6" in diameter. Outside diameter of the handle ring is 4 7/8" A very nice clean solid lantern. Not perfect. But I think it did rather good for being 150 years old. This one is very solid and it slides back and forth very easily and spins easily also. I notice some of the countries are named a little different than they have been the last 30 years. PHILIPS 19 inch terrestrial globe. 1962. This is a large and impressive table globe from the British company Philips. Dated 1962. The globe is constructed from two hemispherical aluminium shells, joined at the equator, with 12 hand-applied paper gores. It is reinforced internally by a hardboard disc with steel rim at the equator and a wooden cylinder along the axis. The globe is mounted on a turned mahogany base with a heavy cantilevered aluminium bracket supporting the axis. The map retains good colour but shows some browning and craquelure due to degradation of the lacquer. Aluminium globe shells are quite soft and particularly susceptible to denting. This example has one dent off the south west coast of Africa and a smaller one west of the southern tip of South America- both are pictured. I have up for sale a nice vintage original circa 1930- 1935 GEORGE F CRAM CO Indianapolis. Indiana 12" Terrestrial World Globe. It has an attractive heavy cast iron base. It would date from circa 1931 to 1935 indicated by the use of a PERSIA which changed to Iran in 1935 and the use of ISTANBUL which prior to 1930 was called CONSTANTINOPLE. Manchuria is called both MANCHURIA OR MANCHOUKUO and Saudi Arabia is the KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA. The globe is in good but used condition. There are indications of use and of age as noted in the above description. The globe very possibly was used in a school. It has some light discoloration in spots. LARGE ANTIQUE NEW ENGLAND BRASS AND COPPER ONION GLOBE LANTERN
This auction is for a nice large antique onion globe lantern. This lantern is entirely brass and copper. It is quite large and measures about 17" tall and is very heavy. The burner is a dead flame Simplex and the wick turner says E. Miller and Co Made in the USA. The simplex burner has a small piece broke off on one side. The oil pot appears to be stuck and I am not able to get it out. I don't want to force it. I think the lantern may have a slight bend to the bottom and thats why it won't release. The globe has a small piece broken at the top but it does not show with the top on. The globe has some bubbles in it and a small bubble pop on one side. There are no manufactuer names on the lantern so I don't know it's maker. It appears that some one sodered the handle so it will not swing and one bail has detached by it's ... morescrew. Up for auction a Vintage 1967 Masketeers map. This is a authentic piece however it replicates The 1600's World Globe Map and is Brass Chipboard Wall Art. This Beautiful Masketeer World Map is in very good condition for its age with minor scuffs. And has some minor surface rust on the brass. I started to clean it up and the rust does come off with ease. I do not have the appropriate brass cleaner so i will leave it up to the new owner. For an original from 1967 this chipboard is in unbeliveble condition and who ever previously own it took oustanding care of it. The brass shines like its brand new and the detail of the art is beautiful. They have minor flaws of course which consists of most of the red paint gone on the outside of the glass, but, being from this early of age, both the globe and the bracket is overall in great, fully usable condition with excellent patina. Not so hot yet I guess(pun) The Red Comet is the earliest documented use of fire suppression inside homes and businesses. The small business started out in a garage on the outskirts of Littleton Colorado called the Red Comet Manufacturing Company. When it first opened in 1919. It took a few years to get the designs. The company came out with their first product…rightfully named, the red comet. This device could work two ways. First, people could store them in their house in padded containers and if there was a fire in their house or a neighboring house, they could take these devices and throw them into the base of the fire. The main idea for this product was for it to be hung or mounted in hallways of homes or warehouses. The red comet has a spring loaded mechanism that when the clip holding the spring back burns off at 160 degrees, it sends a metal rod upwards into the glass where it shatters and spreads the special fluid on the fire. The contents of the globe is a special fire protection agent called carbon tetrachloride. Up for auction is a pair of 2 antique Maritime passageway heavy brass/bronze ship lights with cobalt blue glass globes with sliding doors and a handle for hanging. There are doors that slide on the lamp to open and close the cobalt blue glass globe. The base is all heavy brass/bronze and has a threaded top with moveable handle. On the top of the lamp it has a threaded fitting marked. 9-S-5010-L Type XXII Size B. The threaded top of the light has 9-S-2108-L. There is a gasket with washer and light socket inside, so changing the bulb is very easy. The cobalt blue globe is very heavy, please check pictures and measures 4 ½” diameter x 5” long with rounded bottom. On the rim of the cobalt blue globe it has Type H 2034 L P.G. Co. There are no chips or cracks on the globe. Underneath on the top ring it has 2099-L-3 and on the bottom section ... moreis 2099-L-4. The heavy base contains the sliding door to open and close. The bottom panel also opens and closes. With handle up the lamp stands 11 ¼” tall and the base is 5 ½” diameter. Both lamps have the same numbers and are identical. Antique Clear Glass Oil Lamp with Clear Glass Globe When fully assembled about 13 inches tall. The glass globe is about 8.75 inches tall; it is 12.5 inches around at the widest circumference and tapers to about 6 inches at the narrowest point flaring slightly to finish with a fluted top. Made from molded or pressed glass. The glass base is about 4 inches tall and has a small loop handle. About 14.24 inches wide in circumference at the widest point which is a raised border at about midpoint. The bottom, which is, about 4.25 inches wide has a fancy pattern(which looks like cut glass but is not. The design is like a sunburst or flower. The metal base is about 2.25 tall and appears to be brass. It screws into a brass colored fitting at the top of the glass base. Four prongs of about 1.5 inches tall hold the glass globe in place. The metal base ... moreis stamped"EAGLE. There is a wick still in the lamp and I find the screw to turn the wick stiff. The metal is unpolished and has some discoloration.
